Plastic Woodwind Instruments have become widely used in Education, not least because they are cheaper than the real thing but because they are small and light and have a remarkable sound making them very acceptable teaching instruments – not to mention almost indestructible!

The Lyons C clarinet and latterly the Clarineo is used by thousands of students throughout the world. Recently joined by the Nuvo flute and jSax, plastic woodwind instruments are opening up avenues that otherwise wouldn’t have existed.

Alto Flute

The Alto flute is the next extension downward of the Flute in C. It is characterized by its distinct, mellow tone in the lower portion of its range.

The new jFlute 2.0 also includes key extensions to help small fingers and a brand new case which is smaller and easier to carry for the young flautist!

Jacqueline is 3 years old and a K.1 pupil at St. Stephen’s Girls’ College Kindergarten. She started her clarinet study with Mr Kenneth Kan from Artstive Company in January 2022 and she enjoys playing the NUVO Clarinéo very much. Recently, she has been awarded the Third Prize in the Children Woodwind (age 8 or below) in Fringe Inter-school Music Competition and the Platinum Medal in the Quebec International Music Competition, and she has performed in two charity events. Eb Clarinet Reeds

Eb clarinet reeds are also suitable for use with C-Lyons or Nuvo Clarineo plastic clarinets.

We also improved the jFlute head joint by replacing the curved head with the new innovative “donut” head joint. The “donut” is a neat solution that still shortens the reach while keeping the embouchure hole in line with the keys. This helps young starters to keep the flute balanced while also making it much easier to set up the flute for each lesson. Flute

The standard flute in C comes with a wide variety of options from the silver plated student models to flutes which are precious metal throughout. There is also the option of closed hole which the vast majority of student flutes are, or open hole which is more common in advanced models.

The Nuvo TooT is very similar to a fife, and therefore makes a great choice for students hoping to eventually progress to playing the flute. As well as a traditional “flute-style” lip plate, the TooT is also supplied with a FirstNote lip plate. This helps with sound production in the early stages of playing, whilst the student is learning correct posture and fingering. Available in a range of bright, fun colours. The TooT comes with its own durable carry case, fingering chart and the two interchangeable lip plates. It is also waterproof, being made from plastic and silicone. This means it can be washed in warm water to keep clean, making it a great choice for younger players or a classroom environment! The Dood uses the same mouthpiece and reed system as the Clarinéo. Two NUVO resin reeds a fingering chart and a case are included. Fully waterproof so can be washed frequently with warm soapy water. Ferran is a music teacher with over 25 years of teaching experiencs in both high schools and music schools. He is a multi-instrumentalist with various academic degrees in music instruments and currently plays in a brass quintet group – “Quintet de Metalls AlVent”.
