I was curious to try this after reading so many other reviews that liken L'aimant to Chanel's no 5 and having worn Chanel for a number of years I can see why. Smelling L'Aimant after all these years (translation from French equals "Magnet") I am brought back to that early bottle that my mother had, although I don't know if I can trust my memory here. including three from Aftelier - I am currently swooning over Secret Garden and completely revising my previous lariness around natural scents - Miriam(! The great Coty vintage L'Aimant (1927) (The Magnet) was sold with the tagline "The most attractive perfume in the world.

three samples from Magnetic Scent and two from O'Driu (lines that were completely under my radar), plus a complete set of JAR Parfums ( which I smelt in Paris but would like to try again, even though at least three smelt of carnation. If at any time you would like to opt out from marketing, you can visit the Privacy Preferences page and select the relevant options. Most fragrances I wear I prefer to be "fresh," or, as the maker intended them (to be worn around the time when they were made.Yes, by the far drydown, it had taken on a creamy, almost dreamy aspect, with the florals still prickling with spice and mired in civet. I do think most people would get an "old lady" or dated impression from this but if you appreciate vintage scents you'll probably enjoy this. I don't remember anything about either L'Origan (I think that was the other one in that set, not sure, they were both crème perfumes, though) or L'Aimant. It was her signature scent, so whenever I smell this or Max Factor pressed powder, I always think of her.

I happen to love fragrances like that because it matches up with my white skin while in the bath tub and this fragrance being older provides it with better projection. The first time I wore her I was dolled up as Marilyn Monroe and a friend of my mother suggested I look for this fragrance so I went to a rummage sale in Palm Beach Gardens my neighborhood in Florida.

The L'Aimant eventually got more spicy and woodsy as well, with the cedar and sandalwood notes blending with the florals. Maybe I am the only one or maybe it is because L'Aimant is not as strong as Chanel no 5, so I don't get a headache from it. Yes there’s plenty of sweetness and something blunt like booze in there too, but rose a go go in the modern version, I wonder if that is what wears away with age….

The excitement of breaking the seal on a bottle that is anywhere from 30-50 years old has to be one of the highlights of my perfumista career. then turns to a scent that is like a rosier version of Avon's Sweet Honesty minus the dreaded plastic note. It's incredibly comforting when i smell it because it's like the essence of her captured in a bottle. Update: I have to say that in the heat of summer humid days I prefer this one to Chanle No 5 Eau Premiere. how does a hugely popular scent that was enjoyed for decades as a "magnet" become so distasteful and re-coded with the opposite meaning? The most predominant notes are vanilla and musk, with hint of tonka that comes across with an almost coconut-like smoothness. I've never received compliments on it or anything, but then in my circles, I am known for wearing all different kinds of perfumes. A bit too hairspray smelling and soapy for me I have the edt and the body spray and I actually prefer the spray to the edt. I also experienced a strange shock of memory as I realized that my mother had a bottle of this - not only a small oval-shaped bottle (probably from the 60s or so,) but it was part of a three perfume set from Coty that also included Emeraude and L'Origan. But my impression was that it was far more potent and also more oil based than their current scented lotions Or perfumed skin softeners.

I wouldn't go nuts or out of my way to find a vintage formula as the more recent are just as lovely. I think the bottle design deserves a special mention too, as it's one of the prettiest bottles I own. Well it just so happens, as this recollection dawned upon your forgetful correspondent, that a certain M.Pulled all together, it has a distinctly raw and organic feel, almost a vegetable-like smell; pleasant, like the flesh from an uncooked butternut squash. Top notes are Aldehydes, Neroli, Peach and Bergamot; middle notes are Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Jasmine, Geranium and Orchid; base notes are Musk, Vanille, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Vetiver and Virginia Cedar. This is lovely, i was put off as used to think it was an 'old' scent but it's the closest thing i've found to my long discontinued Moschino 'L'eau Cheap and Chic'.
