Three albums later, they are done, and I find that I am not so broken up about it. I never spend a lot of time thinking about why, but, to some extent, the freshness of that first listen has slowly seeped away from the band. The rest of the book is a narrative of his drug addiction and subsequent recovery and re-inventing his career as a solo artist. He kinda loses me a bit in some of the later chapters, talking about where he was on 09/11 and his sober travel adventures. The entire book is engaging and well written from start to finish - it's the first book in a while I had a hard time putting down, actually. I did feel after a while like the random stories were just random rather than illuminating who he was as a person, though. CPS-23 (“Asimov’s Magic Candy”) (STR 3, 15eb/dose) CPS-23 (CyberPsychotic Suppressant 23), known on the street as “Asimov’s Magic Candy,” is a drug used in the clinical treatment of cyberpsychosis. Neurovine (STR 2, 1000eb/dose) This is an antidote for nerve poison. If taken within 15 seconds of poisoning (assuming you’re not dead), a Neurovine injection helps stabilize the poison until further treatment can be sought. Note that Neurovine is in itself frequently deadly. Benefits: Gives you a chance to survive BioToxins. I was raised on Soul Coughing. My parents played their music in the car and Mike Doughty's luscious poetry coloured my understanding of the world. I've always thought of him as a genius -- godlike and propelled by blinding creativity. A comprehensive textbook on drug-taking behavior in America from the perspective of the criminal justice system, and the governmental regulations that have been designed to deal with the adverse societal impact of substance abuse. Not exactly brainwashing. It’s just a few hour-long sessions with a psychologist. There’s no doubt that the wisdom is not the drugs, but the fact that you can fairly reliably produce something that people spend their whole lives in monasteries trying to get to, seems to me a pretty exciting result.
