Description

If you don't have seven toms, you will have to substitute your t om 1 (or another tom) for the additional toms in the sheet music. In the graphic above, the "Open roll (written out)" shows all of the strokes of the roll written out in 32nd-note notation. This indicates that the ride should be hit with the shoulder of the stick on the edge of the cymbal.

Crash Ride: Play the ride cymbal as if you were crashing a crash cymbal, with the shoulder of the stick hitting the edge of the cymbal. Both directors are full time Pipe Band Drumming Instructors and professional percussionists with the Glasgow Police Pipe Band and world famous bagpipe rock group The Red Hot Chilli Pipers. In our sheet music, we use the Z symbol on the note stem to clearly indicate when you should use buzz strokes over diddles.Consenting to these technologies will allow us to process data such as browsing behaviour or unique IDs on this site. The tip of the stick strikes the drum head, generally just off-center, and the shaft of the stick strikes the rim.

In some setups, the lowest tom(s) are attached to a cymbal stand with a clamp rather than resting on the floor. If something on your kit can’t be adjusted by a drum key then the likelihood is you’re not meant to touch it. See the video example above for "Buzz roll/Closed roll" for an example of how to play a "buzz" stroke. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. This method keeps the sheet music looking cleaner without the need for multiple loose hi-hat symbols in a row. Additional toms aren't often used in mainstream music, but you will come across these from time to time. This perfectly balanced Drum Key allows for faster rod removal/replacement and extra leverage when required. IMPORTANT: If your drums are setup in this arrangement, it's common (and often necessary) to play f loor tom 1 as your tom 2 and floor tom 2 as your floor tom 1 when reading drum sheet music.

This master drum key isn't exhaustive, meaning that we didn't include every possible notation that you might encounter. Please give us the reason for your assessment in the following text box and – if possible – your e-mail address for further questions. In the master drum key, they are identified as tom 1, tom 2, floor tom 1 and floor tom 2 (see below). The clip allows the drummer on the go to fasten their drum key to almost anything so that its easily accessible and quick to find. When a modifier is to be applied to many (or all) of the cymbal strokes in a section, we use a "section modifier" to communicate that the entire section should be played a certain way.
