Description

It’s certainly an effective dehumidifier. In a small bedroom with damp and mould issues, I saw the humidity fall from 67% to 52% within a couple of hours, and I had to force the target down to 45% to keep the purifier busy. It's also worth considering noise levels and energy consumption before you invest in a dehumidifier. What's the quietest dehumidifier? The MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier is a great buy for apartments or small to medium-sized houses, and it’s easy to move from room to room thanks to the extendable handle and castors, and compact enough to store easily when not in use.Larger homes, or those with more serious damp issues, may benefit from opting for the MeacoDry Arete One 20 or 25L which offer the same great functionality with an increased extraction capacity. What do you do if you already produce some of the quietest and most energy-efficiency dehumidifiers on the market? With Meaco’s new MeacoDry Arete One, the answer is to go even lower with power consumption and even quieter – and with some higher capacity options, too. Beyond that, this dehumidifier is very easy to use, the controls are all really well laid out, and there’s not too much to get your head around when it comes to operating it.

As important as it is to have moisture in the air, too much can cause problems, from mould growth to making it feel hotter as a result of sweat being unable to evaporate. Dehumidifiers are the solution, but many are expensive to run and fiddly to use. The MeacoDry Arete One aims to fix that. It’s relatively cheap to run and can aim for an ideal humidity level automatically, so you’ll never over-dry your air. Design and Features Smart Humidity Mode will be the one you use the most and, when pressed, it will set the target humidity levels to 55%. To test the unit, we set the target to 40%, as levels stood at 45% at the time. You can do this by repeatedly pressing the same button until the desired number flashes on the display. There is also CO mode, which just means your dehumidifier will run continuously.

The unit isn't the lightest or most compact we've tested, but then we wouldn't expect that from a machine this powerful. However, built-in wheels, a retractable carry handle, and cable tidy make it easier to move around the house and store neatly away when it's not in use. A dehumidifier's extraction rate is an average of how much moisture it can remove from the air during a given timeframe. Most commonly this is measured in litres per day, so an extraction rate of 10L/per day means the dehumidifier should be able to extract 10 litres of moisture within 24 hours if running continuously. In practice, this also depends on the humidity levels of the room, and the ambient temperature.

This handle feels far more robust than most that I've come across on other dehumidifiers and is really easy to grip. The EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3 Dehumidifier can extract up to 7.5 litres of moisture per day in cold temperatures as low as 1ºc, so it's a very useful option for conservatorys, basements or garages that don't have dedicated heating, as well as unheated rooms in the home during winter months. First up, it's worth making clear that this small dehumidifier has a low extraction rate compared to many others on our list. The ProBreeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier can extract just 0.5L of moisture from the air per day. For comparison, the lowest extraction rate offered within the MeacoDry Arete One range is 10L of moisture extraction per day. Thanks to this, the Silentnight 39899 dehumidifier has noise levels of just 25dBA, and as our reviewer says 'when I say it’s whisper quiet, I mean it. I couldn't hear this dehumidifier whilst it was running at all. That makes it perfect for anywhere you want to maintain peace and quiet' – like the bedroom. The extensive feature set makes this the perfect dehumidifier for almost any home and can be deployed in any room as well as conservatories, garages, boats or caravans with exceptional performance. I suffer from hayfever, and when I left the dehumidifier running all night, I woke up and didn’t have any allergy symptoms at all.

If you have a lot of laundry you need to dry indoors over the winter months, then we think thePro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Modeis the best dehumidifier for drying clothes fast. The downside is that this dehumidifier has a far lower extraction rate than most, extracting just 0.3 litres of water from the air per day. For comparison, the best in class Meaco Arete One dehumidifier can extract between 10 and 25 litres of water from the air per day depending which model you opt for. Water tank capacity is also reduced, with the Silentnight model only able to hold 0.6L of water. That means you'll be emptying the tank frequently. If you're wondering how to get rid of mould in a poorly ventilated room, or trying to combat excess moisture or humidity inside the home, then a dehumidifier can be a useful tool in your arsenal. Overall, this is a best-in-class dehumidifier that does a fantastic job of extracting moisture from the home and is one of the best dehumidifier for drying washing fast. This is another reason why the MeacoDry Arete® is the best dehumidifier we have ever made. SpecificationsThe Arete One also has an automatic shut-off function when its water tank is full. At this point, the unit will beep and a red light will be displayed to alert you that the tank needs emptying. This is a useful feature that cheaper dehumidifiers tend not to have, and gives peace of mind that your home's flooring isn't going to be damaged by any overspill. There's also a small window on the front of the dehumidifier that shows you the current water levels. If you press the Smart Humidity mode button repeatedly, you can cycle between the available humidity targets, ranging from 40% to 70%rh, with a continuous option if you just want to keep dehumidifying, no matter what. And there’s a simple but clever solution for pouring out the water. With Arete there are two spouts: one to the left and one to the right. So you can pour the water away without having to juggle or twist the tank. If you are using your dehumidifier in a space whereby you will not be able to empty the tank everyday then why not use the pump and drain the water away to a sink, bath or out of the window? That way the dehumidifier will continue to work and will not stop when the tank is full waiting for you to empty it.

Looking like a portable air conditioning unit, the MeacoDry Arete One is a fairly large box (562 x 376 x 232mm). Weighing 15kg (without water in it), it’s quite chunky, too, although the wheels make it easy to move around. Cleverly, you can even place the unit against a wall, and it will still work effectively. Because this isn’t a dedicated air purifier, it doesn’t have sensors to determine the air quality so the air purifier won’t automatically correct 'bad' air and will only work when the dehumidifier is running, but it’s still a great additional feature to have included. Energy use The only quieter dehumidifiers I've come across are Peltier models, like the Pro Breeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier. However, Peltier dehumidifiers are far less powerful than compressor dehumidifiers. For comparison, as I discovered in my Pro Breeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier review, this Peltier model can only extract 0.5L of moisture from the air per day, compared to the MeacoDry Arete One range which can extract 10, 12, 20, or 25L of moisture per day! Portability Dehumidifier users most often leave their dehumidifier near bedrooms and in operation for the majority of the time. As such, quiet operation was essential. The Arete range runs twice as quiet as any other comparable compressor dehumidifier on the market. The way the dehumidifiers are tested are in a sealed chamber using calibrated microphones at 1m on all four sides. These professional microphones measure the sound power level, and then the average of the four readings is the decibel figure that is reported.

A great, hassle-free dehumidifier that puts the squeeze on noise and power consumption

A dehumidifier isn't the most exciting of household appliances, but it's obvious that attention has still been paid to the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier's design. The unit looks both sleek and modern, with simple monochromestyling that blends easily into a room without standing out too much. The advantage of the size, drying power and capacity is that the Arete One can dehumidify larger areas than your average 10-12L dehumidifier. I’ve had it working on an upstairs landing and a large downstairs hallway, and in both cases, it did a solid job of controlling humidity and drying out areas affected by damp or mould, although in these sorts of environments you need to leave it running for longer periods to make an impact.
