Before starting the process, If you have not used Tulip puffy paint before do not use it directly on your fabric or any surface. it is best to practice on some old paper or newspaper. Also, you might find it useful to create guides or templates to get the application just right. Step 2 Last but not the least, caring for your puffy paint is so important if you don’t want your hard work to go in vain. Let the paint dry for at least four hours. Usually, puffy paint takes around 3 to 4 hours to dry. Place your t-shirt in a safe place during this time where it will not be disturbed. Keep it straight to prevent the puffy paint from smudging. You can wash your shirt after 72 hours, after that it is safe to wash your puffy paint t-shirt. But do not wash your t-shirts before the paint has had at least 72 hours, roughly three days to set. For fall, you can use this puffy paint recipe to stimulate kids’ senses while making their 3D pumpkin paintings. Acrylic & latex paints are water-based paints. Painting with acrylics is common for crafts and artwork, but latex paint is commonly used on walls & ceilings. Homemade puff paints are the best for making paintings around your wall. Note that you can mix several colors when making the puff paint. Multiple colors give paintings a more beautiful appearance. How do you make puffy paint?

Mixability is also an important trait, as there will most likely not be one set that has every exact color you need. This will allow you the option to get the perfect shade for your needs without having to break the bank buying several different sets. If you have stencils to use, then fabric spray paint is highly recommended, as it takes a lot of time out of making your project and will cover large areas flawlessly. Puffy Fabric Paint For raised lines, hold the bottle at an angle to the fabric, allowing more paint to escape. For flat lines, hold the bottle straight up and down, allowing less paint to escape, you can also brush Tulip to cover large areas should you so wish. Practice your lines on pre-printed paper towels.

If the mark is difficult to remove, blot it with a gentle motion, rubbing will cause it to spread & worsen. I love having projects for the kids to do when they have friends over. Sometimes the kids are very self-entertaining, which is the fabulous part of having friends over to play. I used Barbasol shaving cream from the dollar store, but I’m sure any type would work. And I bought a big bottle of generic white glue from Walmart. Consider covering or disguising the stain instead of throwing it out. An applique or patch that is creative could work. Give some cheap knit work gloves some grip and durability (for example, as shown at Art Threads). Or put it on your winter gloves to give them some grip when driving.

When my kids tried it a bit later, it was a little difficult for them to squeeze, something I didn’t experience the first time. I’m wondering if weather plays a part in how this responds. It is very important to shake the bottle well before starting to use Tulip to ensure the bottle contents are mixed well. If you have 2 tubes tapping them together works well to aid mixing. Then, after the uppermost layers of paint have been removed, a cleaning solution must be prepared. To do this, you will need water & detergent. It is recommended to use mild detergents so that the fabric doesn’t get discolored or ruined. I have shown you a close up of all the results so you can decide the consistency that works best for your project. Again, my favorite mixture was the pink mixture that I highlighted in my recipe for the best puffy paint.

Puffy Paint Recipe

Here are Abby’s results. It’s pretty clear that there were some puffy paint recipes that worked better than others. They were playing with the four different recipes here. Experiment. You can use Tulip fabric paints to adhere to small objects, such as rhinestones, or to achieve a variety of different effects. If you don’t feel confident with a technique, try practicing on a paper towel Paint your designs: Once you are sure the mixture is ready for use, you can start making your puffy paint designs. Following stain removal with one of the above methods, the clothes should be washed one last time. When washing out tie dye, use your favorite laundry detergent on the stained items. It is best to clean them with cold water. People have used this textile medium with great success when using fabric paint on couches, chairs, cushions, and clothes. It helps to maintain a soft feel to the fabric—though the end result largely depends on the fiber content, weave, and other factors for each type of upholstery. This textile medium may be especially useful on darker fabrics and denim, which can be notoriously hard to use fabric paint on. Some users did experience a hardened finish and needed to sand the paint for a softer feel. Overall, this medium helps to preserve the feeling of fabrics and also helps paint look smoother and more opaque.

Silicone molds are a must for making squishies! We recommend simple molds like donut pans, cupcake liners, or a cake slice mold. Even plastic cups work well as molds (when the foam rises out of the cup it looks like a cupcake!).Wood has a rough texture and perfectly absorbs paint thus making it the best surface to use puffy paint on. If you are using liquid paints, you may be able to finish your project with any color of fabric, though be careful of extremely dark colors. If only using puffy paint, this may be more acceptable, as the paint will stand out from the fabric better, making the design more visible. Tap bottle firmly, tips downward, on a hard surface. Flush out the bottle by squeezing out a small amount of paint, and wiping the tip clean. The picture above is of when I tried it again. I did the test, so it wasn’t originally kids trying to squeeze the bottle. As I looked at homemade puffy paint recipes, I saw a variety of outcomes but didn’t loved the finished product.

Puffy fabric paint adds such a fun shine and texture to the donut squishies! You can also apply thin layers of acrylic paint to the squishies, but it will be matte and won’t have any dimension to it. How else can I make squishies? Kids love to mix and pour. I always encourage you to get your kids involved in every step of the process.

Beginner on a Budget

Let me show you the process of how I ended up making my own recipe, which became my personal favorite. I’ll show you the results of each test recipe, and you can decide which result you like the best in terms of puff and texture. We made about 20 squishies and there is still a LOT of liquid left in the bottles. You could probably make between 80 and 100 squishies with this one kit, depending on how big the squishies are. How long do the foam liquids last? Apply a solvent. Once you have removed as much excess paint as you can by scraping and brushing, you will need to soften the remaining paint with one of several alcohol-based solvents. Chances are you already have one of these products at home. Apply a small amount directly to the paint to begin loosening it. You can try dish soap & warm water, or use nail polish remover with a tissue, applying gentle pressure to loosen the paint. Wet or dry spots can both be treated with this method. Olive oil can be used on particularly delicate surfaces. 09. What removes washable paint from clothes? This one’s fairly simple to make and will leave you with the cutest Pac-Man characters ever. All you need to do is cut plates into the shapes of Pac-Man and the ghosts, paint the plates, and add googly eyes to top it all off.
