About this deal

Ace spun around and pointed at the people staring at them, and oh dear, everyone was staring at them “ I WON THE BET!!!” Honestly, I had a hard time deciding what to rate this book. At some point, I enjoyed most of what happened, some parts of it got me and my emotions all over the place, made me understand hopelessness and gave new meaning to empathy, friendship, love and courage. But tbh, I did not get invested in the story right away. Instead, it had slowly eaten me up, swallowed me whole and plunged me into some place interesting as I moved along and apprehended the main character's family situation. Xiao had actually been to Liuli Pavilion before, with Zhongli and Ganyu. He'd had to wear a tie. In all honesty, he never thought he’d come here again. The strip was buzzing with activity even this late at night, brimming with tourists and rich locals alike. There was nothing that visibly differentiated Xiao from them, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he didn’t belong here. Not without his old employer at his side. That was when Sabo realized he was being hugged. Next came the crashing realization that he hadn't been hugged in ten years. Doing any one of these things ANYWAY will have the effect of me cussing you out, hating you and everything you stand for, and deleting your comment and any that follow.

I could go on and on, but it's like every paragraph is filled with the most heartbreaking and truth-filled sentences, and it's not easy to read. It feels far scarier to read this than any horror book I've ever read, because this is about a real-life horror, a real-life monster. It sheds light on the abuser's traumatic past without ever excusing his actions, and it does not portray victims as weak or in need of saving. Leighton is one of the strongest protagonists I've ever read about, and there are a lot of admirable qualities in her, without her being perfect. It does a fantastic job of showing how many bad or negligent people there are in this world, but also showing how many kind and brilliant people you will meet as well. Every part of this book is amazing, and I cannot wait for Kyrie McCauley's future works.THE HUB: Similarly, the crows (my favorite bird!) occupy an important and complicated space in both the narrative and in the town itself. How did you land upon this unique idea?

By threatening your brothers, yoi.” his fellow blond finished for him in a tone that told Sabo just how well the man understood his dilemma. Which wasn't all too surprising, if the rumors about the crew's family-dynamics were true. There was a look of triumph on his face as he finally managed to grab it, but Marco could see what was about to happen moments before his grip slipped. Leighton', mother was not weak either for staying with him. She had a loving past with the man and it was hard to brush it under the rug. She would always endanger herself to protect her kids. That's not someone weak. Marco sighed in exasperation and took Sabo's bag as he headed towards Ace's room. At least he knew where to store it now, he'd been debating over it for the past few days. Obviously the kid was gonna sleep in his brother's room for a while before he was assigned to one of the divisions. The Zoan was leaning heavily towards the 2nd, now, rather than his own. There was no way either of those two idiots were letting anyone separate them ever again. Their history would not allow it. I think that book should be included in school programs to open the eyes, maybe free some tongues and who knows, save lives!Perfect for fans of Laura Ruby, Laurie Halse Anderson, and Mindy McGinnis, Kyrie McCauley’s stunning YA debut is a powerful story about the haunting specter of domestic violence and the rebellious forces of sisterhood and first love. Winner of the William C. Morris Award!
