Description

If you’re looking for a little extra protection for your shod horse, or are currently dealing with an abscess and need to de-shoe a foot, then this Cavallo hoof boot should be top of your consideration. We found the boot to be an excellent lightweight, sturdy and high quality hoof boot. Common sense must prevail! The boot is not breathable as its designed to be water resistant so we would suggest that the maximum length of use during any one ‘fitting’ is one week.

But, it all depends on your budget. No question, the Cavallo hoof boots are at the top end of the market and if you’re just testing the water with barefoot then it might be prudent to try a cheaper alternative to start with – and upgrade as and when. The medical hoof boot from Woof Wear have a very unique close fitting design to keep wounds, poultices and dressings clean. The medic boot is highly durable as you can reuse the boots as well as it can be used for both stable and turnout use, allowing your horse to enjoy the freedom instead of being kept in. The boot features a grooved sole for extra grip, as well as a Kevlar interior for durability. It also has an asymmetric zip to give the boot a really close fit and preventing it from opening whilst on the hoof, stopping bedding and other debris from getting inside. Woof Wear expect this boot to last 2-3 weeks under normal circumstances and offer it as a cost-effective alternative to adhesive bandages and tape. The boot is not indestructible and so is not guaranteed against breakage due to the horse standing on the boot. It is not suitable as an alternative to an overreach boot to prevent shoe loss, nor protect against overreaching. If your horse is inclined to overreach, or stands on its own hooves, then an overreach boot should be used over the Medical Hoof Boot to protect both the horse and the boot from damage. This popular horse boot from PFIFF is a close rival to the HKM boot on our list. There’s very little between the two hoof boots on paper. In terms of pricing this hoof boot from PFIFF is usually sold individually, so please bear that in mind when you are comparing based on price alone.

We expect the boot to last 2-3 weeks under normal circumstances with many customers finding they last much longer. The boot is not indestructible and so is not guaranteed against breakage, due to the horse standing on the boot. Manufactured with a grooved sole and a Kelvar® interior they offer extra grip and durability. The asymmetric zip gives the boot a closer fit and prevents the zipper from opening. Transitioning horses with less than ideal hooves may be a job that requires time, patience and a little investment, at least in the beginning. and in all cases, the management of a barefoot horse may not suit the owner’s requirements for practices that are predominantly chosen for convenience – for example, stabling him. Measure, Measure, Measure…The MHB is designed to be a snug fit so it doesn’t fall off. If you do not measure accurately or buy a size too big it can result in damage to the MHB due to the boot being trodden on by the other foot.Available in 10 different sizes, (please see picture for more details and guide) the boot is designed for use with or without a shoe. It can assist in a number of ailments to the foot such as abscesses, punctured sole or bruised sole.
