This track and its non-LP instrumental B-side "Oh Lord, I'm Browned Off" were rarities among Faces collectors until they were both compiled on the Five Guys Walk into a Bar.

Folks look at Stewart as the Faces front man and that's certainly true, but to me Lane was always the band's heartbeat and that was seldom as obvious as on the folk-blues number 'Richmond'. The album is credited to the Small Faces on all North American issues and reissues, [1] while record labels for initial vinyl printings give the title as The First Step. That's why each of our records is first meticulously cleaned and then not just inspected once, but twice, before a sample is play-tested to make sure it sounds as good as it looks. box set of 2004, the different early mix of the A-side remains confined to the single and early vinyl editions of Snakes and Ladders / The Best of Faces in 1976.Their first two albums, First Step (1970) and Long Player (1971), lacked a hit single, but their third album, 1971's A Nod Is As Good As a Wink. On 24 September 2009, it was announced that the Faces, minus Rod Stewart, would reunite for a one-off charity show for the Performing Rights Society's Music Members' Benevolent Fund, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. When it comes to the Faces, the band’s first album should be viewed through the prism of its title: FIRST STEP. Ronnie Lane, by then suffering from multiple sclerosis, was on stage to sing in his wheelchair, but was unable to play bass; Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones filled in for him.

In 1975 Wood began working with the Rolling Stones , which brought differences between Stewart and the others to a head, and after a troubled fall US tour (with Jesse Ed Davis on rhythm guitar), in December the band announced that they were splitting. However, on the eve of the ceremony, Stewart bowed out owing to a bout of influenza and Hucknall was asked to sing in his place. Fissinger’s musical approach is refreshingly uncomplicated, allowing the beauty of the song’s simplicity to shine through. Two tracks, "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "I Feel So Good", were recorded live at the Fillmore East, New York City, on 10 November 1970. Rod's first 3 solo album's were produced while he was safe in the fold of the "Faces" often trying his new material out on audiences while on tour with them. His sound in the years since joining the Stones has, quite naturally, got embedded with his soul-mate Keith Richards but, if you listen to his early recordings, you can hear the melody in his musical runs, whether it be on guitar, bass guitar, or pedal steel guitar.

to a Blind Horse, bolstered by the success of Stewart's solo work, became a worldwide hit, peaking at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and number 6 on the U. A number of partial reunions of the Faces were rumoured throughout the 2000s, with various one-off performances involving surviving members occurring. Which is a damn shame cause this album really could've benefited from the presence of a "Maggie May". Opening track Bad 'n' Ruin has a great vocal performance by Rod Stewart, who overall is a bit more of a presence this time around - but don't worry, this was back in the day when a prominent Rod Stewart was a benefit and not a detriment to a song. The band's performance on the track was acknowledged with a 'thank-you' from Stewart in the LP's liner notes. Released in February 1971, the group's second set found the Faces further setting themselves apart from the band members' better-known previous projects: singer Rod Stewart and guitarist Ronnie Wood from the Jeff Beck Group; bassist Ronnie Lane, keyboardist Ian McLagan and drummer Kenney Jones from the Small Faces.
