After seeing how an improperly handled decal starts to flake, I decided to invest in some Mr. Super Clear Matt top coat spray. I was pleasantly surprised to find some at a local chain hobby store. I also grabbed some alligator clips while I was there. Now that I have settled on adding still another step to my finishing process I’m certain that I’ll never finish the build and this post will never see the light of day… Lines which depict a place where one panel overlaps another have no depth at all, which in most cases make a line extremely difficult to define with the paint (this may be an area where the marker would work better, but I’m not interested in testing that hypothesis on this kit) Since it comes with a flat hand, you can reproduce the reloading effect by attaching it to the barrel grip of the beam shot rifle. This absolute unit of a model kit is every Gundam builders dream, words cannot describe how much fun I had in assembling this kit. Unfortunately, the water transfer decal for RG Sazabi was not released during production, so I used third part decals.

First, obviously, this leads to Amuro beating the everloving shit out of Char. In mobile suits on an equal footing, Amuro goes absolutely beast mode and stomps him into the dirt. When he tries to eject (the Sazabi has a basketball-shaped escape pod in the head), Amuro just grabs the thing and dribbles it around for a while. There is basically no stupider move in the entire Universal Century than trying to step to Amuro Goddamn Ray, a lesson that Char should have remembered from their showdowns over the years, but evidently needs to be re-taught regularly. The Hasegawa hologram finish sheet is attached to the forehead sensor, and it is painted in clear green from above. The detail of the mono eye is improved with the aurora and SP plate of the GEM dome which is a high queue part.

I started this kit with zero experience with any kind of customization or finishing. I was a snap-builder through and through. But after seeing the scale with this I started to realize this kit deserved more than I was yet capable of. I didn’t go crazy by any means, but I am extremely happy with my choices for finishing. To date, this Gunpla has yet to be redecoed into the "GPB Color" version of the unit from Gunpla Builders Beginning G. A twin pipe is embedded in the muzzle, and the sensor on it is laminated with two hologram finish sheets painted in clear green. I know I keep yammering about how heavy these metal parts are, but now that it’s 95% assembled, I really can’t stress enough what a dense piece this is. Since the funnel can be fixed on the 3.0 mm axis, it is easy to display. The injection state can be freely produced. Since the interior is painted metallic, there is little interference and it can be easily deployed and stored. The last RG release to feature the original red Bandai Logo before it was replaced with a blue-colored Bandai Spirits logo. Since it is an RG, it has many movable parts, and it is good that it can reproduce more human-like natural movements. It is easy to handle, so it is easy to pose, and it will flexibly respond to any poses. (During assembly, grease is applied partially to make it easier to move.)

I'll start off by saying that the RG Sazabi doesn't feel like a Real Grade, it feels more like a 1/144 scale Master Grade. I mentioned that feeling several times during the two streams ( Part 1, Part 2) over the weekend. My reasoning is that it:

This is the Gundam Base Exclusive clear version, but it is structurally identical to the normal RG Sazabi. I happen to have brain worms about how cool clear kits are, but if you’re new to this and want one, it’s worth noting that the clear plastic Bandai uses tends to be much harder and more brittle than their usual materials, to the point where it will dull knives and has been known to shatter nippers. Put away the God Hands for this and use a beefier set of cutters. Still, it’s helpful for this review because it lets me show off the internal mechanical details without having to wrestle the armor off. And there is a lot of mechanical detail. We are here to help you discover happiness, peace and your creativity through this amazing hobby of Gunpla!Beam shot rifle. The power pipe inside is painted metallic red. Since the barrel grip had a parting line on the mold, it was scraped off with the mold and reshaped with a plastic rod. In addition, metallic color is also applied to the inner frame molding, it is a special spec for Real Grade release. If using matte/flat-finish top coat, it is advisable not to spray on the clear/translucent parts - can be done by masking or spraying top coat while the said parts are separated.

Although I don’t paint, I may well end up figuring out a matte clear coat for the plastic to really make those metal joints shine through. Since the advanced MS joint parts that are used partially move finely, I paint with a multi-primer to prevent biting and improve the bite.

Color and form of the product may differ from the actual product and what is seen on screen depending on monitor settings. There are some challenges, like fitting all of the pins and pylons up exactly between two opposing shell parts. No different than the difficulties you’d expect with their plastic counterparts, but obviously since there’s no give in the metal whatsoever it just takes a bit of finesse to get it right. Aside from that, some of the plastic pieces are an extremely tight fit into the holes on the metal parts, but while that’s frustrating going together it will be for the best in the long run. It’s also very easy to cross thread the cheap screws included in the metal kit, so it’s worth taking the extra steps to spin them left a few turns before sinking them. To put that in more concrete terms, the Sazabi at 1/144 absolutely towers over almost all other suits in the same scale. It’s nearly the same size as an average 1/100. I don’t have one handy to compare, but the MG Sazabi Ver.Ka is almost as big as a smaller 1/60 PG. After enjoying episode 7 of Last of Us with the wife this evening I sat down to power through the rest of the legs with the goal of at least getting this behemoth standing on its own feet before the end of the weekend.
