About this deal

When you wait too long, doing nothing becomes a decision in itself. At some point, it’s better to let go and take action. It’s like having a conversation with yourself, but rather than the words continuing to go round your head, you get them out and onto paper.

Public speaking is the number one fear in the world (ranking higher than the fear of death.) It’s a fear, but if you practice, it’s not that scary. Learning to say a few words in front of a large or small group is a huge asset that can be used in so many instances, professional and personal.Stop thinking about it and take action instead. Get out there and try different things to see if they give you a sense of purpose. Intuition is an often overlooked tool when it comes to decision making, but it shouldn’t be discounted.

In the depths of my despair about my job, there were signals from all around me that I wasn't in the right place: I was embarrassed to talk about my work with others at parties; I couldn't imagine doing my boss's job (nor the one her boss had); and I was petrified that I'd reach 60 or 70 and not feel proud of the work I'd done in my life. Let go of the idea that you only have one purpose. The truth is, you may have multiple purposes in life. You could be wondering what to do when you don’t know what to do with your life, what to do for a career, what to do in a relationship, or even what to do with yourself. You have to honestly believe that you can do the things that you want to do. Know that you have what it takes to make thechanges you need to make. Actually, to be honest, even the smallest thing seems big when I don’t know what to do about it. The state of “not knowing what to do” is like some kind of Miracle Grow for small things in my mind. You might even decide to talk to an expert (like a therapist or coach) as these types of people are trained to ask reflective questions that help you to figure things out, without directly giving you an answer or opinion. Using your imagination can help get you closer to what it is you want, which you can then use to guide you towards what to do next. There are a lot of things that people want out of life, but to obtain them, you have to know what you value and then spend your time in a career or create a lifestyle that supports your values.

There are solutions to each paradox, but they're likely not what you think they are (they weren't initially for me). 1. Do it with others, not alone If you are trying to figure out what you should do with your life, then it’s pretty clear that whatever you are doing now isn’t working. The key to giving yourself time is to not make that an indefinite amount of time and avoid making any decision at all. 9) Know that it’s ok not to knowDon't get me wrong, this would be a rather interesting book and the author has a lot of information on the subject. He's a great speaker and brings a lot of value.

Then ask yourself, ‘And then what?’. The problem is you don’t have a clue what you want to do instead. So you do nothing. But by doing nothing, you’re not getting any closer to finding out what it is you truly want.

6) Go with your gut

Are you willing to give up time with your family for a career? Are you willing to accept a lower salary? Define what you will and won’t tolerate before jumping into something new. 21. What do you feel most proud of? You may not find what you’re looking for right away, but don’t give up looking. Keep exploring, questioning, and trying out ideas. Still not sure what to do with your life? Before you know it, you’ll be living the life you’ve created for yourself, based on your passions, values, skills, and research.
