Concerts, Raves and Festivals are the best, there is nothing better than going to see your favourite acts live on the big stage with amplified sounds. Unfortunately long exposure to sounds over 85 decibels (dB) can cause hearing loss. Gigs tend to be about 115 dB or more, depending where you’re standing. The louder the sound, the shorter amount of time it takes for noise-induced hearing loss to occur. As they go deep into the ear canal, size is a significant factor to pay attention to. Similar to how we buy shoes for our unique foot sizes, everyone has a unique ear size and shape. Since it isn’t practical to sample many individual earplugs to get a comfortable fit, prioritize buying earplugs with many ear tip options. However, understanding NRR isn’t as straightforward as subtracting the NRR from the ambient noise level to estimate the dB level your ears will actually experience. Damaged cilia do no longer pass information through to the brain, deteriorating your hearing. It can also occur that they pass incorrect information, such as a buzz or a ring (tinnitus), you become over-sensitive to certain sounds (hyperacusis), hear sounds distorted (distortia) or hear differently with both ears (diplacusis). A temporary buzz or ring in your ears after visiting a festival or concert already indicates damage to the cilia. The chance of it becoming permanent increases each time you overburden your hearing again.

However I'm a bit confused at the difference between the MusicSafe Pro and PartyPlug Pro. They claim the MusicSafe version attenuates higher frequencies more, and the PartyPlug attenuates all frequencies equally. See here: Eargasm also has High Fidelity Earplugs with a performance of NRR 15 dB for people with regular and large sized ears. The provided filters offer varying levels of noise reduction, with the bronze reducing the level by 16 dB, the silver by 19 dB and the gold lowering the level the most by 22 dB. For the purposes of this review, we opted for the gold filter, as the noise level in the rehearsal space was pretty intense. More attenuation in the higher frequencies also has a disadvantage. The music doesn’t sound exactly the same as when you’re not using earplugs. Still, the difference is mainly audible to people who really listen to the music carefully. You hear the low tones a bit louder relative to the high ones. That’s why the Alpine PartyPlug Pro Natural earplugs have linear attenuation filters. They attenuate roughly the same amount of decibels over all frequencies. This causes a minimal distortion of the music. In other words: you hear the music in exactly the same way, but at a lower volume. This graph displays the difference in attenuation well.

Tears: Look for even the slightest tearing and structural damage that can reduce the quality of your earplugs. Overall, the PartyPlug Pro earplugs have something for everybody and should be a safe universal choice for most concert fanatics. However, the one-size-fits-all approach of their ear tips may not work for everyone. Those with larger ear canals might find that the warping affects the quality or doesn’t give the fit they want.

When in loud concert settings, using the EAROS ONE will allow you to talk to your bandmates clearly while not getting the full deafening roar of the act happening on stage. This can help you feel comfortable and in control of your own environment. However, one takeaway is that they have mixed performance in the deeper pitches. Interestingly enough, they work quite aggressively on most deep sounds, but not the deepest ones. This is most noticeable in concerts and songs that rely heavily on bass notes to carry the music, which may sound strange or distorted. Noticeably Reduced Noise Reduction: If this happens after a few months of owning the earplugs, it probably isn’t that you are at louder concerts or having ear problems. However, looking at these numbers, it appears the PartyPlug ones attenuate the higher frequencies more with a deviation dB of 6.4 for 8000Hz. The Vibes sound familiar to you? That’s because they were featured in ABC’s hit reality TV show, Shark Tank, during its 8th season. The high quality acoustic filters reduce the volume of music to a safe level. Your music experience as well as the sound quality of the music remains very good. Naturally, you can keep talking to your friends. Y ou are preventing that irritating high pitch noise in your ears.

But yeah, if the PartyPlug ones also attenuate higher frequencies more then the listening quality will presumably be similar to the MusicSafe ones so I may as well only get the MusicSafe earplugs. If anyone could help me out here that would be great! Cheers :)

Update summarising my replies below: I ended up buying both and I'm fairly happy with that choice. I'd say with the MusicSafe ones I can notice that it attenuates higher dB more. A couple of times when DJing the bass has sounded a bit heavy compared to the mids and highs, but if I pull the earplug out you can tell that's not the case. I'm quite happy with this as I already have mild tinnitus and I really don't want it to get worse, so I am happy to distort the sound a bit for a bit of extra safety for my ears. Also being able to change the attenutation levels is quite nice - the quietest level doesn't dampen too much, so you can still have the music quite quiet, and just protect your ears a bit from any high frequencies. I probs wouldn't wear these when going to a club or festival though. In that case I want to be able to hear the music properly. PartyPlug Pro Natural earplugs can be worn all day (or night). The soft and flexible thermoplastic material means the earplug moulds to your ear canal. Moreover, the material is hypoallergenic and free from silicones, so you won’t have any annoying allergic reactions or itching. You can use the earplugs more than 100 times, so they will easily last an entire festival season. Be kind to your ears and make sure you can enjoy your favourite band or DJ for a long time. We must say the Alpine earplugs did a great job at retaining the overall clarity of the sound in the room. While some of the frequencies lost a little definition – mainly the low mids – overall, the balance was pretty outstanding. The noise reduction was pretty spectacular, too. We were using the gold filters, which dropped the volume by 22 dB, and this made the volume much more manageable and comfortable. The EarDial HiFi Earplugs are tiny, thinly built, and practically invisible. If you’re looking for the perfect earplugs for a friend that finds using them embarrassing, these are your best choice. But then I was taking a look at the numbers they have available, and for the MusicSafe they claim these level of reductions:Moreover, we really like the EarDial companion app– available on the Play Store and App Store– for its straightforward approach to ear safety. Alpine PartyPlug earplugs attenuate the higher tones a bit more. These earplugs offer good protection, don’t make you feel isolated and allow you to hear conversations well. They are comfortable for hours and the music also remains properly audible. If you for instance use the earplugs for going out or an occasional festival, the PartyPlug is a good choice for you. But if you go to festivals or concerts to really enjoy the music, the PartyPlug Pro Natural makes the difference between good and outstanding musical sound quality. The loudest concert in history, Sleazy Joe’s 2008 performance in Sweden, was a recorded 143.2 dB – nearly as loud as a jet engine at 30 meters.
