Olympus fail to specify what glass they use to make the prisms with, this for me is a concern as on their higher spec models, they clearly state that they use BaK-4 Glass. Additionally, the anti-reflection coated optics improves light transmission, contrast with precise colour rendition.

m. This pair of binoculars can be your best companion while on a nature trail or for watching birds or wildlife. The binoculars' 8x magnification and 65 degree field of view make them ideal for use on fast-moving subjects, and details such as UV protection and night vision make these binoculars a good choice for hikers, birdwatchers, camping, and hunting enthusiasts. The lens coatings appear reasonably good and refect little light, so I went ahead and tested the 40mm apertures with a paper strip over the objectives: looking through the eyepieces I could see light at the edges at 38mm. i would describe them as a medium size binocular, not too small and not too big which in my view is the perfect size ! The Olympus 8x40 Explorer S Binoculars feature a 60° wide-angle of view that offers an immersive viewing experience in the woods, at the stadium, or on your porch. The view starting to degrade from 50-60 percent out is par for the course for non premium binoculars.

I wear glasses, and I know from the Olympus which has 12mm eye relief that it's about the minimum which works for me: so that would rule out the Vixen 2. Sorry I don't have first hand experiece but it does seem both Aculon models generally get good reviews. I think the sellers in India are enjoying collecting sort of premium for these rarely available products or something.

Although the 8x40s are lighter and give a wider FOV I find that the extra 10mm really helps pick out those fainter objects. Having never looked through the Olympus 8x40 DPS I, I cannot be too specific, but my advice is to always get the best quality binocular you can afford. If you look at the table below, it shows that an optical system with 10 glass surfaces that are left uncoated transmit just 66% of the light that they initially capture, whilst if all 10 surfaces are multi-coated, this can be raised to 95%. Super lightweight and easy to focus with the wide FOV makes learning the constellations a fun and interesting process.

The binoculars has an objective lens with a diameter of 40 mm so you can get a bright and clear view of objects from a distance. Do you have a binocular or optics related question on a topic that I have not already covered on BBR?I have used (but never owned) several sets of the 10x50; always a crisp, clear view and have a satisfyingly robust, if lightweight, feel about them. The binoculars are encased in a rubber-coated armour to prevent damage in the event of knocks or bumps. Welcome to BirdForum, the internet's largest birding community with thousands of members from all over the world. However as I have not looked through the Olympus or compared them I can’t be completely, but it is something that I have often witnessed with similar types of comparisons.
