Media Arts Database. Agency for Cultural Affairs. When Thomas proves his capabilities, he becomes one of the Runners who are tasked to venture into the maze in the hopes of finding a way out. But when they finally find a path, the young boy must lead his fellow prisoners to a dangerous expedition into the Maze where lives may surely be lost. i felt that arisu and his friends' ennui is better captured in the manga versus the tv show, because there's more space to flesh out the characters’ feelings prior to diving into the explosive alternate tokyo. the only part of the tv show that i preferred to this source material is chota's characterization - he's kind of a perv in the manga but more endearingly awkward and soft in the show?? LOL. I'll be honest: most survival manga aren't very good. A lot of these tend to degenerate into a ridiculous pile of cliches and plot holes despite having an interesting premise, either because of fanservice overload (*this kind of work is usually aimed at horny male teens, hence the gratuitous amount of gore and boobs) and/or the simple matter that the author just can't write well.
