He has now adapted the first book in the series himself for the Unicorn Theatre’s Christmas show and, if the result is not entirely clean, wholesome entertainment (it’s recommended for six-years-plus) – there are an awful lot of references to bottoms, for one thing – it marks a pretty jolly start to the festive season. A native of Southport and secretary of the BAHRS since its foundation, educated at Saxenholme School, Birkdale – who is writing the final publication, about Churchtown. It’s all very jolly but the energy eventually lags. Running at two hours, Clary’s script is far too long and a bit shapeless. The songs, penned by Clary and Simon Wallace, are written in an unforgivingly low register and don’t feel entirely necessary – but are just about rescued by a delightfully daft duet in the closing stages, infused with a music-hall sense of mischief. Many of the society’s volumes have since become rare, being limited editions – and this new book is no exception! There is also the typical trope of old, grumpy, bleh, dude next door. I really don't like that trope, it was the one thing that I didn't like throughout the book. Only at the ending (with the revelation) did I start to like him a bit. I still didn't like that he acted the way he did. I found it rude, bad, and I just wanted him out of the story.

Southport born and bred, Harry attended local schools and taught in the town before moving to Edge Hill College (as it then was). This, the 11th volume by the 32-year old Birkdale & Ainsdale Historical Research Society (BAHRS) – founded in 1985 – is the penultimate publication covering many aspects of Southport’s communities, and has been a painstaking project over many years, by four local history authors:

The BOLD Identification System (IDS) for rbcL and matK is the default identification tool for Plant barcodes and accepts sequences from the Ribulose-bisphosphate Her chapter is the result of many years’ research into the riveting history of the Hesketh family, who came to own our Meols Hall, in Churchtown. The Bolds are just like you and me. They live in an ordinary house on an ordinary street, and they love to laugh. But there's one slight difference. They are actually hyenas!

Letting Julian Clary loose in the world of children’s stories feels like a high-risk strategy – so alert are his antennae to potential innuendo, the comedian could make even a picnic in the sunshine sound somehow risqué. Yet he has had huge success with his best-selling series The Bolds, about a group of hyenas living in disguise as humans in Teddington, west London, and which combine subtle messages about assimilation and identity with lashings of rambunctious child-friendly comedy. All published COI records from BOLD and GenBank with a minimum sequence length of 500bp. This library is a collection of records from the published projects section of BOLD. The Bolds are just like you and me. They live in an ordinary house on an ordinary street, and they love to laugh. But there’s one slight difference… they are hyenas! Things become more precarious for the human pretending hyenas following a visit to a safari park where they meet Uncle Tony, an ageing hyena who’s destined for extermination by the other hyenas in the animal park. Not to mention the threat posed by the irrepressible antics of Betty and Bobby who’ve already exposed their secret hyena identities by unwittingly exposing their tails to schoolmate, Minnie (Charity Bedu-Addo). Just one publication is left for the society to produce: a shorter history of Churchtown, after which the society will cease to exist!shaving attachments for full body shaving - head shaver, barber clipper, precision trimmer and nose trimmer The volume I speak of is entitled Southport’s Landowning Families – four local manorial families by four well-known and highly-respected historians, Sylvia Harrop, Pat Perrins, Roger Hull and, the late, great, Dr. Harry Foster.

The premise is simple but strong. After Fred and Amelia Bold suffer an unfortunate accident with a crocodile during a safari in Tanzania, two enterprising hyenas spot an opportunity for a better life and pitch up in Teddington determined to nail the suburban lifestyle with their two young pups – sorry, children – who are taught from an early age never to reveal their bushy tails. My old mate Harry needs no introduction to proud Sandgrounders, having been the author of several excellent publications on Southport. The dialogue is fun and irreverent, and Julian pokes lots of fun at the ridiculousness of modern life as The Bolds adjust to Teddington society. There’s toilet humour aplenty, and generous dollops of one liners. Yet throughout this silliness we develop a fondness and sympathy for these furry imposters. We are most indignant at the way their frosty neighbour Mr McNumpty treats them. And you just know that the trip to the local safari park will be memorably eventful! She has been chairman and publications editor of the BAHRS since it was founded, and is a vice-president of the Historic Society of Lancashire & Cheshire (HSLC). There are 88 colour and b/w illustrations, many that have not been seen before, coming from private collections. What a fun premise! And what a disappointment. The story arc didn't quite feel finished, and there were all sorts of opportunities built right into the plot for the author to heighten the stakes but Clary just let them slip through his fingers. So much could have gone wrong with the kidnapping! So much could have gone wrong with their disguises! So much could have gone wrong on "Grandpa's" walks! But nothing ever did. The wildlife refuge rescue wasn't dangerous enough to be the main conflict of the book. It's like the whole book was a lead up to a story that never happened.
