While the sound doesn’t stretch into the room a huge amount, there’s a good degree of width and height to the audio, making for an atmospheric presentation that manages to convey the openness of the stormy street outside Bill and Georgie’s house in It, and the echoey storm drain where Pennywise makes his first, disturbing appearance. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) Philips OLED807 has one of the so-called OLED EX panels from LG Display that is said to deliver up to 30% of additional brightness. Unfortunately, to reach 1000 nits on OLED807 you are still required to use one of the more dynamic modes that do not deliver accurate picture quality. It is possible to increase peak brightness in these modes because the color temperature of white is much higher (more bluish). In the Expert picture mode peak brightness lands on a more moderate 740 nits. It has a slightly brighter HDR presentation in the mid-tones than intended.

By default, Dolby Vision content triggers the HDR Personal preset, which is miles away from the intention of Dolby Vision. It’s a bizarre approach – some might say a slightly arrogant one – but it’s at least easily solved by manually switching to a more appropriate preset. The 48-inch Philips 48OLED806 won 'best TV' at last year's What Hi-Fi Awards, so we've high hopes for the OLED807. The new range will be available in 48-, 55-, 65- and 77-inch screen sizes in the first half of 2022. Pricing is still under wraps. There are actually two game modes: Optimal and Optimal (Auto). The latter mode allows you to enjoy the benefits of VRR. In terms of other gaming features, there’s support for HGiG and Dolby Vision HDR gaming, along with cloud gaming via Geforce Now.If you like me no longer use the built-in tuners, you have no use for the 0-9 buttons and channel selectors. And if you use the built-in streaming apps it would be more useful to have user-customizable app buttons than the four sponsored buttons. The Philips 65OLED807 has a built-in soundbar, which delivers powerful, clear sound. The soundbar has a built-in subwoofer, allowing you to enjoy deep bass without needing an external subwoofer. The soundbar is compatible with Dolby Atmos, so you can enjoy immersive surround sound. This TV is sure to be the centrepiece of any home entertainment setup.

The Philips OLED807 is a great little performer in the 48-inch screen size and will suit those looking for a TV that fits in a smaller room, for use with gaming consoles or as a PC monitor and it manages to fulfil those roles with ease. Add to this; support for all currently used HDR formats; two full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 inputs with 4K120 support at full resolution with VRR; Freesync and G-Sync support; a decent smart TV system and the USP of Ambilight. What’s not to like? The OLED807 retains Philips’ long-running reputation for sharpness, too. Its pictures look emphatically 4K with the set’s Ultra Resolution feature in play – and this feature now seems to cause no significant unwanted side effects, so we see no reason not to use it (we recommended avoiding it in the past). The OLED807’s extra brightness also brings out more shadow detail in dark areas than we got with the OLED806, and HD sources are upscaled with more sharpness and detail than you get from most rivals.

The set's bezel is significantly narrower than that of the OLED806, which itself was pretty slinky. This is made possible by Philips switching to one of the latest EX type of OLED panels. The frame is so skinny, in fact, that it plays beautifully with Philips' Ambilight system, making the coloured illumination that comes from all four sides feel even more connected with the images you're watching. The ratio between the horizontal and the vertical side of the display. Some of the standard and widely used aspect ratios are 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10. The storage altitude shows the maximum possible altitude for secure storing of the display. Storing it above this limit may result in damaging the display. Panel uniformity is very good on the Philips 65OLED807 with no signs of dirty screen effect or banding on brighter patterns. A 5% grey slide held up well with just some mild banding seen in very dark surroundings, however, this is not seen within actual viewing content, even in dark scenes in dim viewing surroundings. We also didn’t encounter any vignetting to the edges of the panel.

Android TV is also absent. Instead, this model uses the 'Saphi' operating system often found on Philips' more affordable European TVs. This could limit the number of streaming apps, but it's too early to say for sure. Philips has stayed loyal to the Android TV platform for a few years now, so it won't surprise you to hear that the company's 2022 smart TVs get the most recent version – Android TV 11. This features both Google Assistant Built-in, via push to talk on the remote, and Works with Alexa compatibility. It's also worth noting that all of the firm's 2022 Ambilight TVs continue to offer the full range of HDR formats, so that's Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10 and HDR10+ (including HDR10+ Adaptive). New for 2022 is the addition of IMAX Enhanced support. Improved Ambilight The Philips 65OLED807 is a great performer at the price point and market position sitting just below the OLED+ models in the Philips lineup. It has support for all currently used HDR formats, two full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 inputs with 4K120 support at full resolution with VRR, FreeSync and G-Sync support, a decent smart TV system and the USP of four-sided Ambilight.Overall, the OLED807 in the 48-inch screen size offers a compelling choice for a number of use cases and the performance is excellent, even given the fact it doesn’t have the OLED.EX heat dissipation panel that the larger screen sizes do have. Performance remains accurate for those who want it and the P5 in its 6th Gen configuration also offers plenty of image processing power for those who want all the bells and whistles switched on. Gaming is also well catered for with two full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports and good support for the latest standards for VRR and 4K/120 at full resolution. It offers something for everyone and does so with very decent image quality and features and comes recommended. The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC. The extra brightness of the EX panel doesn’t just boost the TV’s contrast and sense of HDR ‘punch’, either. Expertly marshalled by the P5 processor, it also injects even more life into Philips’ already luxuriously rich and vibrant colour palette. Bold, heavily saturated tones look explosively intense, yet such is Philips’ mastery of its colour management that apart from one or two rare over-the-top moments with the new Crystal Clear preset, the colour intensity is always matched by excellent tonal subtlety and definition. As a result, even the most richly coloured objects don’t look flattened or forced. The biggest step up comes from its brightness. We measured a decently sustained peak light output of nearly 870 nits on a white HDR window covering 10% of the 55-inch OLED807’s screen, which is around 100 nits up on the peak light output of the OLED806. This amounts to an almost 15% increase that can be keenly felt in both small bright highlights and full-screen brightness when watching HDR sources. Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS).

Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. That said, Dolby Vision Bright, which is the preset best used for Dolby Vision content when viewing in ambient light, isn’t simply a brighter version of the most accurate Dolby Vision Dark preset, but one with a number of other settings also altered. If you do view Dolby Vision content in a lit room, or you simply enjoy a punchier Dolby Vision delivery (as we do), you’ll need to reduce or turn off these settings to avoid an image that’s overly sharpened – reduce sharpness so it’s at 3 at most, turn off Ultra Resolution and noise reduction, and switch Motion Styles to Movie or Pure Cinema. There's Dolby Atmos decoding built-in, and HDMI eARC support for connecting to one of the best soundbars. Disney+ subscription required. Subject to terms at https://www.disneyplus.com (c) 2020 Disney and its related entities. Disney+ is available in selected languages and countries. The set’s mid-range is wide and dynamic enough to deliver even dense action scenes with authority and conviction, easily avoiding the thin, hemmed in feel you get with big movie moments on so many TVs. The power and dynamic range that delivers this impressive mid-range performance also contributes to excellent detailing; a nicely projected sound stage that seems to exist well beyond the edges of the screen; and convincing, clear vocals. The Filmmaker mode offers highly accurate images for HDR10, HLG and HDR10+, while the Cinema mode does the same for Dolby Vision. The 807’s tone mapping passed all of our HDR tests, ensuring any HDR10 content precisely follows the PQ curve and doesn’t clip 1,000, 4,000 and 10,000 nit material, ensuring the content retains the original creator’s intent. However, please note that the 48-inch OLED807 won't be able to match the same highs as this, because the panel can't get as bright at this size (it's the same for all 48-inch OLEDs) – this brightness applies to the 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch models.
