I'd been planning to buy a looper pedal for ages, and I finally settled on the Boss RC-1 over the TC Looper because it didn't need a separate power supply, being equipped with a 9 volt battery. The external pedal on the contrary appears to always stop AND clear the loop. There’s some logic to this, since you can use the RC-1 to stop without clearing.
