Description

In the case of the latter, this means that the Attacker and Defender will have different goals to achieve and different strategies to achieve them. Unlike its predecessor, and probably suggesting the model for these things going forward, there’s no core rules in here. The ‘information’ in the T’au encampment might instead be a collection of lost religious writings your Novitiate kill team is desperate to recover.

This should probably go without saying, but it’s one of the first things we checked – there’s no 40k rules in here at all. Two large buildings dominate the killzone, creating key areas that operatives will fight over, as well as tight fire lanes between them. If you’re interested in playing one of these teams, the book is essential; even if you’re not, there’s plenty here to get to grips with and integrate into your games or campaigns of Kill Team. Warhammer 40,000 is on a larger scale than Kill Team and concentrates on the grand plans, sweeping manoeuvres and the clash of massive armies, whereas Kill Team is all about moment-to-moment action.

We must reinforce our message by ensuring the local broadcasting systems feed them only our propaganda. Exclusive equipment is here in the shape of 8 pieces of wargear, such as Fusion Grenades, Orbital Scan and Target Analysis Optics. The new Novitiates have a 40k datasheet but it was published on Warhammer Community separately, and the Pathfinders are just as per the Tau codex unless we get told otherwise in future. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly - we recommend using Citadel: Plastic Glue and Citadel: paints. You gain Faith Points at the start of each Turning Point, as well as when your operatives perform certain actions, such as if one of your Novitiate with the Marksmanship specialism incapacitated an enemy.

A Defender’s operative can perform this action if it is not within Engagement Range of an enemy operative and it is within of an objective marker that it controls. It’s hard to imagine that they won’t get put into some kind of compendium or something down the line, since it’d be pretty weird for a box to sell out and no more players be able to play Novitiates for lack of rules, but we have no indication of such a thing yet or any idea how regular it’ll be.As far as we can tell at this fairly early stage in the game’s life, these campaign books are how you access the rules for the new teams – and while not strictly better than what’s in the Compendium, there is more to them, including the faction-specific Tac Ops and such which are absent from that book – and those are only in the box they belong to, at least for now. Now elite Kill Teams scurry through the urban wasteland and across the ruins of demolished buildings.

This isn’t a get-you-by until a Codex can come along and replace the pamphlet, these are rules you’re expected to use for your team for the foreseeable; supplementing those are additional Killzone (terrain) rules and nine new Shadow Operations missions. If a friendly operative controls the Exemplar deployment objective marker in the enemy drop zone, you score 2VPs.
