About this deal

It has a silver ring at the front which makes the style even more fitted with the whole vintage look that Fujifilm cameras roll with.

Most of the issues with the corners and edges will be gone because of the crop factor and you’re left with a crazy sharp lens with nice contrast if you can keep it in focus. the very shallow depth of field can make it a bit harder to focus, but I never have real trouble nailing it with focus peaking and the zoomed-in focus checking features Fujifilm has. I would say a lot of people have misgivings when it comes to independently produced products from China and I cannot blame them because there are dodgy products being sold throughout the years. The Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 R WR delivers a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view and stands out due to its small size and weather-resistant build. So that’s that, I feel like it’s a little cheaper than a Rokinon / Samyang lens because their lenses at least go a few months before falling apart. To me the combination of focal length and depth of field is perfect for street photography as it allows a lot of light to hit the sensor and wide enough to do environmental portraiture. It’s a nice lens to sort of mess around with or to learn manual focus, especially if you’re looking to casually shoot some black-and-white photography. The focus ring has a throw of about 100° which makes it a little difficult to get precision focus, but this is fairly common for a manual 35mm lens.

I just haven’t posted anything from it yet, and when see my first SL related review, I think you will see why. I used focus peaking, at it was fast and accurate; I’ve used manual lenses in the past, and I often use manual focusing with the lenses I have. For precise focusing i should always press the magnification button, and while i’m focusing i miss the whole frame 🙂 Then i’m going back to full view, framing again, then press the magnification, focusing, full view again, …. After only a few days of using the lens, the aperture display ring (the ring that has the aperture tick on it), came loose and could spin freely. It does have some faults and quirks, but, considering how little it goes for, it’s easy to overlook those issues, and perhaps even embrace them.

I started to slow down a bit in my photography, something film photography has taught me, to be a bit more intentional.

I was able to get some pretty nice shots that I'm happy with in the 2 years I've had this lens, and I regularly pick it up instead of my 23mm f/2 which I think is telling.
