When I started shooting them side-by-side I did find that there were some slight differences but that was all about field of view and not about image quality. a manual focus lens for many photographer shooters, including canon eos, Sony e-mount, fuji x mount and micro-four third mount. The 7artisans I had was a lot of fun to use, had a very special character with a old-style sonnar design.

had its own unique 'Sonnar character', which is completely lost in the 'planar-like' 7Artisans 35/1. Its biggest flaw is the vignetting with the color ring shift, so I wouldn’t really recommend this lens for landscapes or architecture. With this lens, the rear element was completely covered with some strange speckled oil that took me a while to get off. As you might be unsurprised to hear, the lens is manual focus, though the assistance features of modern mirrorless cameras certainly make using it a bit easier. Still have mixed feelings whether it is best forking more money to get the Mitakon or spending less and get the 7Artisans which seems to perform closely to the Mitakon. This can also be seen in the fact that it uses a standard 52 mm filter thread just like Fujifilms own 35mm f/1.

It has an all metal construction, and you can definitely feel that there is a lot of glass in this lens. There’s a bit of vignetting but this was shot with a fairly high-contrast tone curve so this image will have exaggerated it. On the other hand I must admit that there is not that much of choice for us and our APSC cameras since all this Vintage glass require Adapters and size and weight goes up. Even so, it’s sharp enough to be useful in the centre, and I wouldn’t mind using it wide open if the lighting conditions force me to do so. At the first week of use I had some excess oil/grease working itself out from under the aperture ring and onto the barrel, which I guess is good for weather sealing, but other than that is annoying as hell! Those values in that chart are absolutely my non-scientific findings from just shooting the lenses over the course of many years (except the 7artisans obviously), so take that for what you want. On the spec sheet and in technical terms it’s one of the shittiest lenses I’ve ever mounted on my X-series cameras. We've been using a full production version of this 120 fps sports camera, to see what you gain (and, perhaps, lose). It hits a sweet spot between being very creamy, and presenting some imperfections such as semi-harsh edges on the out of focus specular highlights.
