About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Beauty boxes – bundles of products and make-up delivered straight to your door via a subscription – are by far the easiest (and most exciting) way to get your style fix, and they make an excellent gift too. One more thing: the water used in cosmetics is purified and deionized (it means that almost all of the mineral ions inside it is removed). I used Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and it went on even more smoothly than normal with a definite ‘lit from within’ glow. With subtle, ‘soft focus’ pigments to blur while diffusing the light to lend skin an ethereal finish, this silky, skin-brightening formula instantly counteracts dullness and ensures you ooze dewy, well-rested radiance.

When the weather was warmer and we had a few heat waves I found this to be too moisturizing for my skin and it left my face looking a bit too dewy. I liked it, it does illuminate, but I don't think I'd describe it as a primer as I didn't feel that it did prime. If you are someone who likes to know what you put on your face then fragrance is not your best friend - there's no way to know what’s really in it. In certain places on my face I can tell that it gives me a bit of a glow without even having makeup on over it.As a test, I asked my husband to squeeze a little bit of one of the primers onto my hand while I had my eyes closed, and then I opened my eyes and guessed which one it was. This is a lovely water-based primer that works beautifully with my foundation and didn’t settle in fine lines or cause any oil breakthrough. After 10 hours of wear (I work full time and what can I say but the media never sleeps), my skin was still glowing, a bit too much, but my face was still smooth.

As you might guess from the “pro” part, it’s a precursor to vitamin B5 (whose fancy name is pantothenic acid). On the flip side the lighter, more subtle glow the Charlotte Tilbury primer gives my skin is better-suited for everyday wear and using with light-medium coverage bases. You will really only need a small amount (like the amount pictured above) to cover your entire face. Water, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin,Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice)Extract, Panthenol, Silica, Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin,Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol,Fragrance, Iron Oxides (CI 77491). It is a known fragrance allergen and as of 1st of March 2022, it has been banned in the EU due to animal studies showing a possible link to infertility (in rats - so no need to panic even if you used a product before with Butylphenyl Methylpropional). A 'proof point' with a green tick means a third party has verified the accuracy of the statement whereas no green tick means that there isn't independent confirmation (yet!

It is a multi-tasker used to improve skin feel, increase product slip, give the product light-reflecting properties, enhance skin adhesion or serve as an anti-caking agent. There is a L'Oreal one which is supposed to be good, Lumi Magic or something I think, but it has silicones in which break me out, so I haven't tried it. When I first saw the Backlight Filter Face Primer, I was attracted to it, but thought that it looked like a bottle of straight glitter that I would be putting on my face. It’s luminescent in a natural way, and it looks even more natural when foundation is applied on top; it gives a barely-there sheen that looks like your natural skin is glowing, especially on the high points of your face where you would normally place highlighter. A super common fragrance ingredient that can be found among others in lavender, ylang-ylang, bergamot or jasmine.

It’s often used together with ethylhexylglycerin as it nicely improves the preservative activity of phenoxyethanol. A luminous primer that photo-filters skin imperfections for a smooth, long-lasting makeup application. I think skin type also factors in - the Charlotte Tilbury looks a lot more overtly dewy, whereas the Becca has a more metallic finish. The problem with linalool is, that just like limonene it oxidises on air exposure and becomes allergenic. Don’t let this scare you, because it doesn’t look quite so intense once you have applied it all over the face.
