It will start undoing from the bottom or as with the last jacket it ripped the zipper from the fabric. The Jacket is well made though not as bomb proof as my 15 year old Mera Peak which is still going strong and is my preferred choice for fell walking trips to the Lake District. This coat is nice to bring along in lots of conditions thanks to its versatile and comfortable material. The Cornice III jacket is constructed with a durable and waterproof Gore-Tex fabric, which provides superior protection against rain, wind, and snow. OK, the pockets are not quite as deep but still useful enough and the overall quality bodes well for the next 20 years.

Its interactive (IA) zip and fixing points mean that if the temperatures drop, you can securely attach a compatible Berghaus fleece inside to give yourself an extra layer of insulation, without compromising the breathability of your outfit. Reason for only giving 4stars is that the new model they have shrunk the size of the 2 main outer pockets -I would say by half -I know it sounds petty ,but the lager pockets on the old one where deep therefore you felt gear wasn't going to fall out .Bought this to replace a ten year old Berghaus which was badly frayed around the pockets due to Velcro used in earlier design. Pleased to note that the new one is just as good with a better hood and lining so an absolute no-brainer for me to recommend this jacket. Three pockets (including a purpose-placed zipped map pocket, easily accessible without unzipping the jacket) give you ample room for your essentials. This eye-catching and warming windbreaker from Berghaus is a great pick to help you stay warm and able to stretch during times when you're meandering around the town. This is the third Berghaus jacket my husband has had all of a very similar design and all have been excellent quality and fit.

The Cornice has a relaxed cut and fits my large XXL frame with plenty of room for a heavy weight fleece underneath.The hood is the best I've ever had being that I wear glasses and the hood does not tighten around them pulling them hard on the nose, it is loose what a clever idea, thumbs up to designer. Apart from the slightly shorter pockets this one is of the same quality and I am looking forward to another 16 years of wear both for hill walking and general use. Nevertheless as a Gore Tex lined, rather than a coated garment, the waterproofing qualities should be better than many.
