The flat top of the Beurer is touch-sensitive and lights up to your touch, meaning it doubles as a night light. The first thing that strikes you about this one is its resemblance to an old Apple Mac; it is fairly chunky, at 15cm deep and 20cm wide.

The Beurer Sunrise Wake-Up Clock also features three brightness settings so you can adjust the intensity of the light. If the lamp uses fluorescent bulbs, it should also have a screen over it to filter out harmful UV rays. As a special feature it is also possible to play your own music via Bluetooth® streaming, or AUX input using the Bluetooth® speakers. Despite living in a flat that feels like it's made of 70% glass (a key design trait I thought would make it great for natural light but really means it's freezing cold and has little room for light bulbs), it's pretty grey and dark, so I was hoping an SAD lamp would solve all of these issues with one flick of a switch. You can also set a wake-up melody that is played following the simulated sunrise and provides an acoustic aid to help you wake up.

While you can find this information in the troubleshooting manual, I do think this is a feature that could be improved.

Do not touch the unit with wet hands while it is plugged in or allow water to be sprayed onto the unit. With light intensity of 2000 lux, this light can easily be used as a night or reading light as well.Along with finding the best mattress, pillow and duvet cover for you, finding an alarm clock that helps you sleep better and start the day feeling well-rested is a small change that can have a big impact. It means I can actually put my phone away when decompressing before bed — though I’ll admit, this is very much still a work in progress. Setting multiple alarms can help to ease your body awake which can be particularly helpful for those who struggle to get up in the morning. There are a lot of reasons to feel grim come winter but I do think that dark mornings have a lot to do with it, especially because I normally begin my work day at 7.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend the Lumie Desklamp to a friend, however I am obsessed with the Lumie wake alarm clock (see my glowing review above), which I use religiously and rave about to anyone who will listen. You can either connect this to a USB power point, or into a mains socket using the included plug adapter. As silly as it sounds, I do think I have tricked my brain into thinking this little light is the sun after months of use.We have a lovely selection of interiors, lanterns, nests of tables, cushions, chairs and console tables. In the mornings, I place the light on my bedside table and turn it on to active mode for at least half an hour as soon as I open my eyes. Ideal for night-owls who struggle to rise and shine, the Beurer Sunrise Clock provide a burst of light that can help us wake feeling more refreshed and ready to take on the day. Once it's set up (all you need to do is slot the legs into the body and plug it in), you can play with the touch-sensitive buttons to find the right balance for you. At it’s brightest, it’s slightly less convincing as ‘daylight’ than the new version, but it did wake me up in a good mood. During the simulated sunrise, the mood light first switches from red to yellow, and finally to white. On the positive side, while the ‘Sounds of the Sea’ recording play during sunset mode also repeats, it does so in a much more unobtrusive manner, and so I enjoyed listening to that as I wound down at night.
