Description

The couple have obviously struggled with her ADHD throughout their relationship, but penning twee anecdotes based on their TikTok / Instagram content does not a book make. Told from the perspective of the person who is blessed and cursed with a neuro-divergent brain and the person who loves and supports them.

If your or your partner’s ADHD is more at the level of annoying rather than disabling, and you just want some comic relief alongside guidance to help you navigate everyday life, this book might feel too heavy. It’s a minefield – and often even people within one community can have really differing views on the language they personally prefer – but I think if you’re trying to be fair and sensible and understanding – then you’re on the right path. I’m glad so many people have felt seen by this book - but unfortunately it just doesn’t do it for me. Rox and Rich you have provided me with invaluable language and methods of describing to people what’s going on inside my head. They share the strategies they have used to reduce shame, improve communication, and find happiness in their neurodivergent household.

If you are lucky enough to have a spouse, family member, or friend who can support you then this book may be a good starting point for them to understand some of the ADHD struggles that many people face and how to support them.

I’m lucky to have a rich tapestry of friends (and I can’t wait to celebrate my half century with lots of them next year) – and I’ve collected them over my 5 decades from lots of different places! It's clear they've both done a lot of work in therapy (separately and probably together) and they pay it forward to people (like myself) who are fresh on their journey and still processing.Maybe for a person/couple who is less accepting of their ADHD struggles this would be relatable and useful, but honestly to me, it read almost like a dog training book. but I did realise whilst reading this I have been relying on hyper-anxiety to get me where I need to be, usually 2 hours early, and that is not healthy. What if you stopped feeling ashamed of constantly being late or of getting so hyperfocused on a task that you drop everything else you had to do? The tone of the book is that it happens to all ADHDers but I think these issues are more unique to Rox, but what annoyed me is that they talk about it like we are all likely to suffer from it.

Filled with heartbreak and humour in equal measure, Dirty Laundry is an invaluable resource both for neurodivergents and the people who love them. An empowering and witty guide to banishing shame and living your fullest life with ADHD--plus tips for loved ones on helping them navigate this world, too--from viral duo ADHD_Love. Nawet gdy sama autorka nie doświadcza konkretnych sytuacji, mogło by tu zostać opisane dla bardziej szerokiej perspektywy. However, an issue I have is that she got sober towards the end of 2018, got diagnosed with ADHD soon after, and then had over a year of celibacy to work on her love addiction / relationship issues.

I learned I had ADHD 20 years ago in college so I'm more lucky than others but gosh I didnt know as much about it then as we do now - things like this would have been so helpful! Then I paused it, wrote this with the hopes of some day posting it as a review, and proceeded to listen to a book I have a feeling I am going to love all the more by the end.
