Description

The single malt Miyagikyo bottling represents the perfect expression of the distillery's delicate character, with an emphasis on ex-sherry casks for maturation to bring added depth to this whisky's natural charm. Miyagikyo Single Malt has an elegant fruitiness and a distinctive aroma with a strong Sherry cask influence.

Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru chose a valley in the Miyagi prefecture as the site for his second distillery and started its operation in 1969. MODERN AND INNOVATIVE DISTILLERY – Miyagikyo was set up in 1969 after Taketsuru had been making whisky at his more traditional Yoichi distillery for 35 years.uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties. This wonderful expression of Nikka Miyagikyo has been made using aromatic yeasts that encourage the development of a fruity, floral character, with prominent notes of peaches, pears and lavender complimenting the layers of brioche and honey. This contrasts with their first distillery of Yoichi in Hokkaido which is situated on the coast and displays a much peatier character.

This limited edition of Miyagikyo single malt was introduced in 2021 as the first of the “Nikka Discovery” series. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose this site in the mountains of Sendai to contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, located in the coastal area. This release from the Nikka Whisky team is designed to replace their no age statement variant and is said to contain a range of different aged releases and is matured in ex-Sherry Casks.

This no age statement whisky showcases no end of interplay between notes of aromatic fruit and spice, and doubtless serves as a strong example of Japanese whisky. Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka and founding father of Japanese whisky learned his trade at Hazelburn Distillery in Campbelltown. In Yoichi, Masataka Taketsuru saw numerous reminders of Scotland, and this convinced him that this should be the home of Japanese Whisky.
