Description

Just imagine Archie Adams striking up his band as we step back in time, together, into the Grand Ballroom at the Buckingham Hotel – and we dance like it’s 1938! Meanwhile the ballroom is still operating, and the staff are keen to attract top quality guests and provide a haven from the War. Raymond De Guise is on leave from the army after Dunkirk and the distance between himself and his wife, Nancy seems to be growing. In the fourth series, he danced with actress and impressionist Jan Ravens but was eliminated in week five of the competition. All of that sort of stuff that I’ve learned over the years has all gone into the series of novels, and this one here is set during the Blitz.

While he danced during the evenings and at weekends, he had a day job as a salesman in "The Bed Post" in Petts Wood, South London. Giving us, the readers, the whole spectrum of emotions - the glitz and glamour of the ballroom and the brutal danger of the war. I loved getting to know the characters and despite not having read the others, it didn’t hinder me too much. Du Beke’s debut novel and the first in this series, One Enchanted Evening, centred around the hotel’s grand ballroom and introduced readers to debonair lead dancer Raymond de Guise. Strictly Come Dancing's Anton du Beke has signed a new two-book deal with Zaffre to continue his Buckingham series of romantic novels. If you’d like to give ‘A Christmas to Remember’ a try, or you’re keen to start before your copy arrives, my publishers have provided a FREE sample chapter as a taster! I’ll be talking about my life, my career – the inner Anton – and I shall be doing it all with dance and with song.

There are some beautifully observed scenes depicting Ray,Artie and Billy’s struggles to reach home shores which really pack an emotional punch. Add to the mix some war profiteering, some love found in old age, someone brought to madness by war's losses, and it would have been quite a good story if it wasn't for the editing.Book 4 in the series and kinda obvious I would like it as had enjoyed the previous 3 and happy to say I did!
