About this deal

So while using the plate or hall, the tone knob totally reshapes the sound, adjusting 10 different parameters every time you move the knob, going from menacing undertones to abrasive, metallic resonance. There are a couple of 'party' effects that probably shouldn't see light-of-day on a 'reverb' pedal, but overall this pedal is great. And by plugging into the B input only, the BOSS RV6 outputs a 100-percent wet sound, great for working with more complex rigs that employ parallel processing chains and mixers. Okay, so the spring setting is a little splashy and we'd like more control over the pedal's pre-delay, but we'd argue that the regular settings are sideshows to the main event here, which is cavernous atmosphere - switch over to the modulated setting, and you'll have a hard time shutting it off.

While the BOSS RV-6’s reverb effects are high-tech digital, you can rest assured that your straight guitar tone always remains pure analog as the effect is blended in.

This time round we get Hall, Plate and Spring, a delay/reverb setting, the gorgeous modulated delay setting has been improved in richness from the RV-5, and we also get BOSS's attempts at the now-ubiquitous 'shimmer' reverb. The simple controls let you select the level, tone, time and reverb effects, the different modes let you get a wide range of reverb sounds with just the turn of a knob. The signal paths have a lot of options for stereo and mixing plus you wont be lost for expression with a pedal input for swelling in those lush washes and loop pedal layering.

There’s also a jack for connecting an optional expression pedal, allowing you to control the effect level in real time as you play. On the opposite spectrum I also got more reverb with softer picking, very expressive and indeed a nice effect. Yet the RV-6 can be vintage, with its spring and plate effect, plus the 3 new reverb types added make the RV-6 much more desirable than its predecessor. The RV-6 is thirsty, it has a 9V battery compartment, as do all boss pedals, but don’t expect much time out of it.

The hall effect is very spacious and extremely rich sounding, I could definitely use this for sure, and coupled with a delay and a looper pedal, maybe an E-Bow, would make it even more heavenly than it is. I used the money selling it to get an EQD Ghost Echo: a pedal that compensates its lack of diversity with an ethereal, haunting sound and an incredible spring sound.
