About this deal

Bob Dowling (former Hollywood Reporter Publisher/Editor); “Jim has been a personal friend and colleague of mine for over thirty years.

It didn’t take the brain of a white rat to get Frank Sinatra or Judy Garland a front-page cover story, it was quite another thing to convince newspaper and magazine editors to bury a story or alter scandalous facts that might otherwise prove detrimental to some client. Sometime later on in the show, Michaela, Asher and Laurel all plan on something involving Charles, so they head on out to his known favorite bar. Take out ads in Variety and the Hollywood Reporter announcing your new business and location and send me the bill.

I enjoyed the author's (occasional) candid opinions; as well as learning about certain details that only an insider could provide. We do not allow opaque clients, and our editors try to be careful about weeding out false and misleading content. This is a book that will pull you in and immerse you in a world you probably had no idea even existed.

Cool” and I helped him get his big break to move from TV to movies when I was handling him, and recommended Steve to Frank (Sinatra) when Frank was recasting Never So Few. Such a great piece on the entertainment business and a peep into what’s real or not on celebrity’s lives. He’d lost his Columbia Records recording contract and was playing to less than half-houses in many of his concerts. For over 40 years, he was the go-to guy for Hollywood's elite when they needed to clean up a scandal or avoid one altogether. She also manages to get a meeting with Sylvia Mahoney, Charles’ mother at a very sophisticated restaurant. He gained a reputation as a “troublemaker” at school but got a break when his father, a painter, took him to a house that he was working on.

Readers will be glad that Anderson eventually turned to writing prose, since the well-told anecdotes and memorable character sketches are what make it a page-turner. This energetic memoir is bursting with other celebrity anecdotes, as when he describes the MGM commissary: “There were Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Lawford and Van Johnson at one table…Marilyn Monroe, Jane Powell, and Ann Miller sat behind them. Industrious from a young age, he would sneak onto film sets to sell colas to cast and crew members, netting a profit of 2 cents per bottle.Jim is from the old school that you that you go to the grave with your stories, so we’re lucky that he’s decided to let us in on what he’s kept close to the vest for all these years. He had childhood friends who grew up to be really bad guys… There’s no question, I met a lot of them.
