About this deal

This is to approach James in a fundamentally flawed way, a way unconducive to enjoyment of his work. I think the reader can easily tell how much love and care James put in the writing of these stories. James’ ghost stories do not follow the same style as ones that preceeded them and that led to him being known as the founder of the antiquarian ghost story. He is best remembered for his ghost stories which are widely regarded as among the finest in English literature. Many of them were written to be read aloud, as there was a tradition in Victorian families of reading spooky tales aloud on Christmas Eve.

The situation is usually quite prosaic to start with, and the author moves very slowly piling on his tension step by step.Neat inked name to upper front free end paper, offsetting to end papers, some mild foxing to prelims, mild darkening to spine, a nearly fine copy. By that stage, of course, your own imagination supplies far more graphic impact than a thousand words of description could. In each of them the story is told second or even third hand by a genial narrator whose acquaintances, who are themselves of a decidedly scholarly bent, have been the victims of supernatural intrusion into our world. LEAH MOORE is an author, columnist, and digital comics evangelist, born in Northampton, England in 1978.

Some later editions under this title contain both the original collection and its successor, More Ghost Stories of an Antiquary (1911), combined in one volume. They have written established characters such as Doctor Who (The Whispering Gallery, 2008 with Ben Templesmith) and Sherlock Holmes (The Trial of Sherlock Holmes, 2009 with Aaron Campbell, and The Liverpool Demon, 2012 with Matt Triano), as well as creating their own including Brit-Cit Psi Division, Judge Lillian Storm (Storm Warning, 2015 with Tom Foster). The readings are clear; precise and bring the stories to cold; clammy; sticky; moldy; chilling life. Pages a little browned with light spotting to the first and last pages and a little creasing at the top right corner of the first few pages but otherwise the pages are clean and unmarked.
