The BBC produced a series of twenty-six fifty-minute plays loosely based around Churchill's work and entitled Churchill's People which were broadcast in 1974 and 1975. King Henry V is of course the first King after Agincourt to send correspondence in English – acknowledging this at the time was quite a dare and the English from French becomes the main language of England – the lower classes of people of the time were already speaking English regularly. Printing major works by someone with Churchill s global stature in the 1950s would have been not only a commercial coup, but also a matter of reputational prestige which may help explain why the printer undertook this special binding. A smugness of sorts seems to have existed – this is my American interpretation of course and is not designed

This volume begins with King William III and Queen Mary II; a tumultuous left over location of the world following the removal of King James II. These jackets, so conspicuously prone to spine fading, show only the slightest sunning of the spines; shelf presentation is excellent. Joan of Arc gets more than an honorable prose in a chapter dedicated to her, King Henry VI was merely lucky to have the strength of his Queen. Clement Atlee - who replaced Churchill as premier in 1945 and who Churchill would in turn defeat in 1951 - concisely jabbed with the comment that the work might have been titled "Things in History Which Interested Me. The endpapers are marbled and elaborately gilt tooled, all edges are gilded, the spines are gilt-lettered in six compartments with raised bands. The English Civil War was devastating and Oliver Cromwell certainly maintained power – seems he “got his due” a few years after his death when his skeletal remains were dug up and treated with the most disrespect.

Volume I features The Bayeaux Tapestry, Volume II The Woburn Abbey portrait of Elizabeth I and an early world map, Volume III Stanfield's Battle of Trafalgar and Trumbull's Declaration of Independence, Volume IV Winterhalter's Queen Victoria and the Royal Family and Healy's The Peacemakers, featuring Lincoln and his military commanders. Despite these criticisms, the books were bestsellers and reviewed favourably on both sides of the Atlantic. The sixteenth century is as we know the 100 years that lay in the 1500’s; it seems to historians with a global perspective that the “sixteenth century” more or less begins in 1485 – unbeknownst to the persons who lived during that time frame.Neither did he hesitate to defend the Victorian decadence of Britain - even the beginning of the end can be polished to shine! The work met with acclaim and proved an international best-seller, further vindicating Churchill's receipt of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953. S. Congress on 26 December 1941 he famously quipped, "I cannot help reflecting that if my father had been American and my mother British, instead of the other way around, I might have got here on my own. The bindings feature gilt print and gilt and red decoration on the spines and front covers, a gilt lion rampant within a gilt-framed red shield on each front cover.

My personal opinion of King Henry V was only solidified in this accounting – unfortunately for history King Henry V died earlier that what one would have hoped. The impact of the French Revolution on the European Continent was in reflection for the English the same sort of situation with their own Revolution of 1688. Vol 1 First Published 1956,Vol 2 First Published 1956, Vol 3 First Published 1957, Vol 4 First Published 1958. Founded by bankers who had financed the Clinchfield Railway and the Kingsport town site, Kingsport Press became "an integral component in fulfilling the interlocking concept of industry upon which Kingsport s founders created the planned industrial community" and "served as a catalyst for the development and expansion of related industries such as Mead Paper Company.Parallel reading Churchill's A History of the English-speaking Peoples and Simon Schama's A History of Britain is an interesting process. A prolific author, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his own historical writings, "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values. Eventually, the small remaining area in and around Calais (Burgundian area) in France controlled by Britain was no longer an issue, due in part to the Wars of the Roses. This begins an awakening of working class peoples to see the value to what they brought (and continue to bring in the modern age to a different sort of degree. Very Good condition (slight foxing on outer page block) in Very Good unclipped dust jacket (slight chipping at top and bottom of spine) No inscriptions.
