When I tune theSAMSUNG QE55Q60BAUXXU to Freesat, I'm prompted to enter my UK Postcode. When I enter my postcode, I receive an error message that "The postcode you entered is not available. Channels will be scanned without a postcode". Adaptive sound has audio scenic intelligence that optimizes sound based on real time scene analysis by content type. Again there’s a sense that you’re seeing much more of an HDR image’s potential here than you would typically expect with such an affordable TV. This input lag figure is about as low as it gets in the TV world, potentially giving you a critical advantage over people gaming on less rapid TVs. Note that you can, if you wish, sacrifice a little input lag, pushing it up to around 26ms, to get slightly better overall picture quality, by choosing the Faster or Fast rather than Fastest response time options. This is worth considering for games that aren’t as reliant on super-fast response times. Samsung are known for their stunning design and the QE55Q60BAUXXU is no exception. Thanks to AirSlim, this TV is stunningly slim and sleek with a boundless design – giving you less TV and more picture. Smart TV

As well as potentially not helping the Q60B’s picture quality in some areas, its Air Slim design likely also contributes to its underwhelming audio performance. There just doesn’t seem to be enough physical space to create either the volume levels or dynamic range – especially where lower frequencies are concerned – to provide a really convincing accompaniment to anything more rambunctious than a daytime chat show. The Q60B gets Samsung’s Game Bar interface, which provides key information on incoming gaming graphics and provides faster access to a few gaming-related features. This includes support, uniquely at this price point, for the Super Ultrawide GameView feature that lets you play some compatible PC games in a 32:9 aspect ratio to increase your field of view. There’s also ALLM switching but, unfortunately, that’s the last of the cutting-edge gaming features; there’s no support over any of the TV's three HDMIs for either 4K at 120Hz feeds, or VRR. Despite making a pleasing first impression with its design and some of the more aggressive aspects of its picture quality, in the end, Samsung’s attempt to make Quantum Dot technology more affordable doesn’t result in the budget hero we’d hoped for. Link up a wide choice of devices via the three HDMI and two USB ports, whether that’s a Blu-ray player to please your household’s film buffs, or a console for the avid gamers. Plus, you can connect via Bluetooth or stream from your PC to enjoy even more content. What’s more, use the multiple assistants, Bixby, Alexa, and Google Assistant to control your TV with your voice. This brightness feeds handsomely into the Q60B’s Quantum Dot colors, giving them levels of intensity and richness that again push comfortably beyond the color volumes typically associated with TVs at the same price. The brightness can cause a bit of subtle shading to be lost in the most extremely bright HDR areas. Still, for the most part – especially in the Standard preset – the impressively full-on color saturations are combined with very credible and immersive blends and tonal shifts.Experience clear picture and performance because it automatically estimates and compensates frames for the source of contents. The two issues we have are that it doesn't support ATSC 3.0 for 4K broadcasts in the US (though few budget TVs do), and in the UK it doesn't support the Freeview Play umbrella app for the UK’s main terrestrial TV catch up apps. However, Samsung does carry all the individual apps for these channels. The impact of its brightness with HDR footage can be felt in both the amount of full-screen brightness it can muster and the intensity it’s able to inject into small bright highlights – even if those highlights are within an already bright overall image. Samsung is the No. 1 TV maker in the world, and the Q60B represents a sweet spot between affordability and features. It's the company's cheapest 2022 model to feature QLED technology and in my tests, those quantum dots actually made for a brighter image than I expected. On the other hand it's still not the best value, with similarly-priced models like the TCL 6-Seriesputting out a better picture for around the same price.The Q60B is the cheapest Samsung TV series in its Quantum Dot ‘QLED’ category, and it comes in smaller sizes than most of Samsung's other QLED TVs – at least, it does in some countries. It has a different range of sizes in the US, the UK and Australia.

While it doesn’t carry local dimming, it does benefit from a Dual-LED lighting system, that finds the LEDs ranged around the screen producing alternating cool and warm tones in a bid to increase color accuracy and richness. There's also a selection of picture modes keyed to game genres, namely Standard, RPG, RTS, FPS, Sports, as well as a Custom mode that lets you adjust brightness, contrast and the rest manually. Cycling between the modes with Horizon: Forbidden West the differences were very subtle, with very slightly more shadow detail in FPS mode than the other modes: I saw bigger differences by far with similar modes on LG TVs.

A Smarter and Faster 4K Processor

Overall, though, there just isn’t enough power or dynamic range available to really get the sound out into your room as much as you’d like it to. Verdict Other features include Multi-View (up to two simultaneous video feeds) and an Ambient Mode for calming screensavers or photography. You even get Filmmaker Mode, which turns off most of your picture processing – ostensibly to cleave closer to 'what the creator intended' – but for a screen at this price point we couldn't recommend leaving the picture to fend for itself. I have also tried to tune to Satellite, but the Astra 2E, 2G satellite - which relays the UK Freesat channels - is not available on the list.The channels which are tuned are random international channels and not BBC1, BBC2, ITV etc.

The existence of these rivals does not, though, make the Samsung Q60B any less of a potential hit, provided its performance is up to Samsung’s usual mid-range LCD standards. The Samsung Q60B makes a good first impression on two counts. First, it’s much brighter than the majority of TVs we see in this price category. Bright enough, in fact, to handle high dynamic range sources with genuine conviction – by which we mean that bright scenes, at least, actually look like genuine HDR rather than just like something that’s a bit better than SDR. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) Three HDMI ports is not atypical, but we'd really prefer four on any TV that's intended to last.
