During our review, we found that there were a few updates, but that system still works exceptionally well. SilverStone CS381 Front Drive Bays Such compact cases with little space “behind” the PSU are a prime example of the one disadvantage modular PSUs have in such space-constrainted situations: A need for additional space for those plugs there. It’s also great you had a look inside this unit. I wonder if that PSU connector is proprietary or is it a standard 20/24 pin PSU connector? Would be good to know in case you had a PSU failure.

You will almost certainly need to buy a 24pin ATX cable extender and a 8pin ATX power cable extender. In either case 6 inches is more than enough. In short (and not considering any RAM requirments of any other services running on your FreeNAS box), 8GB RAM is minimum and sufficient for 8 drives. Then, for any additional drive, an additional minimum of 1GB per drive is recommended. Note that those requirements/recommendations are not based on a RAM-per-storage-capacity metric, but rather based on RAM-per-drive. EVGA SuperNOVA 450 GM, 80 Plus Gold 450W, Fully Modular, ECO Mode with DBB Fan, 7 Year Warranty, SFX Form Factor, 123-GM-0450-Y1 Starting with an empty drive cage (to avoid any accidents) I booted from USB and installed a fresh install of 11.2-U7 to both internal SSDs.I saw the U-Nas case listing in GPB from the UK and it was probably the same you bought, it had the same disclaimer. I'm still regretting not getting that case as it's really hard to find here in Europe. In terms of RAM size, a minimum of 8GB is fine, 16GB is recommended, 32GB is overkill (unless you like to live dangerously ;)) Bays, 2x PCIe 4 M.2 NVMe 2280, PCIe Gen 4×16 Upgrade Slot, Intel Core 12th Gen i5/i7/i9 CPU, 16-64GB DDR4 Memory, 2.5Gbe Port, 10Gb x2 Prots (Intel i9 Version), KVM, ZFS or EXT4 Setup, 3-5yr Warranty That test at the start to show power needs to go. Two vms sitting completely idle, and two video streams with deciding happening on your pc gpu is basically just a test of sending the same file to the same place twice. A raspberry pi should be able to pass this test.

Hi Sher, I apologize for this late reply. I had misconfigured the comments. There are two 4-bay cases that take a Mini- ITX case that I think would be suitable: Any idea why, if we decide to use Google pay to say thanks, they charge tax ? And thank you very much for the non-stop education. And just to prove that I haven’t missed a single lesson… ROOTER, ROOTER, ROOTER… This is a great case and not just "for the price." There's a lot to like here. The case takes both mATX and Mini-ITX motherboards. The most important feature when choosing a motherboard is that it must have a PCIe slot that runs at a minimum x8 electrical, and either x8 or x16 physical, to accommodate the RAID card. Now I realize they’re not huge capacities, but even four 4TB SAS drives in a RAID-5 array will give you 12TB of useable storage. If you need more, double that and you get 24TB of storage, your still way ahead of others buying SATA drives. When it comes to NAS cases, the size of the motherboard they can accommodate plays a significant role in determining their differences. ITX and ATX NAS cases differ in this aspect, with ITX cases being smaller and accommodating smaller motherboards compared to their ATX counterparts. This means that ATX motherboards have more PCIe lanes, making them better suited for multi-GPU setups or users who want to use multiple PCIe devices. So if you need a space-saving build, you can see our slim ATX cases for inspiration. How many hard drives can fit inside a mini ITX NAS case? Fractal Design Node 804 ( specs): Is a bit larger but also supports Micro ATX motherboards, which opens up a whole new form factor of potential motherboards to consider. It has internal 8 x 3.5” HDD bays, 2 x 2.5” HDD bays, and it’s very price competitive, which makes it a very attractive option to consider. Dear Friend, First of all, thanks for the amazing review! I’ve bought a TVS-h874-i9 and i see there are some GPU that i can istall on it. My question is if there are other “new” GPUs that i can install on the TVS-h874. I was interested on the MSI GTX 1650 LP . Intel Core i3 or Xeon CPUs are the best choice for Intel based motherboards. If your budget is tight, go for a standard Pentium or Celeron CPU.

Never buy used SAS drives as they would have been run flat out for the entire warranty period (often 5 years) if you are still going around in circles and need direct consultation, we have just started providing one-hour consultations via zoom. You can find out more about them via the link below: One of the more interesting things I’ve noticed is the staying power of Mini-ITX-sized cases, especially the ones that hold enough hard drives to host a DIY NAS build. I’ve been building my own computers for a really long time and I’m spoiled in that I’m constantly seeing new case designs or revisions of old favorites’ designs on an ongoing basis. But for DIY NAS builds, I’m usually seeing the same cases build after build. You'll probably want to buy at least one sata power cable extender/splitter if you intend to have 2.5" SSD's up top.For more information, including part numbers, we have the rest of this article.
