The 1.04-million-dot reinforced LCD viewfinder can be tilted, which is a feature that won’t be popular with everyone but will make creative shooting options easier for those who choose to use it. Other Features The Fuji XT-1 is what a Japanese camera should be: tiny, tight, precise, fast, quiet, easy-to-use and extremely well made out of all metal. It's not another offshored-to-China excuse made out of plastic. As covered above, the T-X1 combines great handling with exceptional construction quality, all at a reasonable price, and can produce outstanding images if you're talented, and sometimes even if you're not. This Fuji X-system is the first serious system designed from the ground-up as digital camera system with no ties whatsoever to film. For instance, the lenses are designed knowing they'll be working with a digital system, and the system automatically works in concert with these lenses to correct lateral color, distortion, light falloff and even diffraction all automatically. There's no way to shoot these lenses off the camera to see how they work without correction; they are intended to work with the camera as a complete system. The stand-out features are at the rear of the camera, with a large 0.77x electronic viewfinder positioned above a 3:2-aspect, 1.04-million-dot tilt screen. The central positioning of the 2.36-million-dot EVF is more akin to that of a DSLR than other X-series models, and having the option to pull out the screen makes it well suited to those who experience difficulties shooting from high or low angles with a fixed screen.

Before we cast our eyes over Fujifilm’s latest creation, let’s refresh ourselves with the relatively swift expansion of the firm’s X-series models. In early 2011, Fujifilm launched the X100 with its fixed 23mm f/2 Fujinon lens, followed around a year later by what was considered the game changer, the X-Pro1. As the first interchangeable X-series model with its own XF-mount system of lenses, it marked an evolution that set out to target enthusiasts and professionals craving outstanding image quality from a more conveniently sized system, inspired by the classic styling of long-departed film cameras. Since 2012, Fujifilm’s objective has focused on expanding the X-series with slimmed-down versions of the X-Pro1, such as the X-E1 and the more recent X-E2. Other releases included the X-M1 and X-A1, which have made inroads into the consumer end of the market, rivalling Sony’s Alpha (formerly NEX) range of compact system cameras and Olympus’s Pen series. To move a focus point, hold the AF button (probably the bottom button of the quad controller depending on how you program it) and press the four rear directional buttons. However, while the build quality of the body can’t be faulted and the handling is mightily impressive, it’s a shame that the XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS kit lens doesn’t feature the same weather-sealing. That said, neither do any of the optics in the current XF lens range, although looking forward we can expect no fewer than three weather-resistant (WR) lenses to arrive by July, based on Fujifilm’s lens roadmap. OM System OM-5 Review

The X-T1 has marvelous automatic eye-control, so the rear LCD or electronic finder come up automatically depending on how you're holding the camera. The included tiny hot shoe EF-X8 flash is fantastic. I get better-balanced indoor ambient flash exposures automatically, on the first shot, than with any DSLR or LEICA.

Squarely aimed at the advanced enthusiast and prosumer photographer, the Fujifilm X-T1 enters the market with a large 2.36-million-dot OLED EVF that delivers class-leading 0.77x full-frame equivalent magnification, which is immediately pleasing to the eye and boasts an almost imperceptible lag of 0.005 seconds, closely imitating an optical viewfinder. The X-T1 is quite large for a mirrorless model, but not a big camera by any means. It's remarkably similar in size to its most obvious competitor, the Olympus OM-D E-M1, which is also weather-sealed and has a large EVF and tilting rear screen. Compared to its sibling the X-E2, the X-T1 has essentially the same footprint, but is a bit taller due to its large top-mounted EVF. Video: The X-T5 is a better choice for video enthusiasts, as it offers 6K video recording at 30 frames per sec The X-T1 completely eclipses the old LEICA M240 by comparison. This Fuji is faster and cleaner, is at least as well made optically and mechanically, it has more and better external controls and ergonomics, has far superior autofocus, and has a decades-better viewfinder — oh, and the LEICA's EVF electronic finder is offshored to China and made out of plastic! The X-T1 has a dedicated movie button allowing video capture from any exposure mode. It's function can't be reassigned, even if you only ever shoot stills.The "Velvia" option is hugely improved from earlier attempts. While nothing tops shooting real Velvia or a top-tier brand (Nikon or Canon) DSLR for shooting places and things, this X-T1 is Fuji's best so far. The default dial positions are incorrectly colored red. They should be fluorescent green for "go" for setting Auto ISO, Auto aperture and Auto shutter speed. I prefer to set JPG NORMAL, not HIGH. The images look the same, and take up half the space on my card and computer. There is no instant manual-focus override; you always have to move a switch to get between the focus modes.
