About this deal

Dust- and splash-resistance comes courtesy of internal seals around all vulnerable points, and these are complemented by an external rubber seal at the mount, as well as water- and oil-resistant coatings on the front and back elements.

On this lens, the Smooth AF Priority makes a modest, but noticeable difference, slowing AF down slightly. I've used the non-DG version before and can say that the -DG version significantly reduces flare/ghosting -- as advertised. SIGMA’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. I'm finding the difference between the Standard AF and Fast AF Priority options very difficult to discern. I am mostly interested in nature photography (landscape, wildlife, closeups) and travel photography (landscape, architecture, portraits).Focus was acquired at the largest aperture in contrast-based AF and not changed for other apertures.

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 OS review | Cameralabs Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 OS review | Cameralabs

Testing the lens under ideal conditions, using an ultra-high resolution Canon EOS 5Ds R, most of my 70mm images were sharp at 1/6 second exposures and about half were sharp at 1/5 second with a strong taper off in keeper rate at longer exposures. This lens features a highly effective dust- and splash-proof structure with special sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring, and cover connection, allowing photographers to work in all types of weather. A 70-200mm lens is my most-used studio lens, working especially well for product images and many other general studio applications. Sigma offers this lens with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax and Sigma mounts and it is cheaper than any other stabilized 70-200/2. The center never disappoints throughout the focal range but the corners need some stopping down for good performance at focal lengths above 130mm.It has a magnesium alloy barrel and a coated brass mounting plate, along with comprehensive weather-seals and water- oil-repellent coatings on the front and rear elements. aperture that is sought after by photographers who need to capture fast moving action or the blur the backgrounds on portraits and close-range sports. That the focus ring does not smoothly transition into the barrel section in front of it seems like a missed opportunity. Unlike smartphones, the OM System TG-7 is designed to take a licking and keep on ticking, whether on land or underwater.

details are already so well defined that you only need a modest touch of sharpening when processing Raw files, otherwise more natural elements can appear overly sharp. The subject framing always remains nicely centered for a good quality overall manual focusing experience. OS zoom to the test on a 36MP Nikon D800 body to see whether the lens is a good match for the highest resolution full-frame DSLR – and also to find out how it fares compared to Nikon’s own alternative. What follows are near-center results (first column) followed by DX-corner results and FX-corner results on a D800. At 200mm the lens exhibits still quite some vignetting and the center performance now profits from stopping down even beyond f4.Unless your wildlife subject is very large and/or very close, the longest native focal length in this lens (I'll discuss the teleconverter options later in the review) will usually be found far too short for this task. Despite the very tight framing, facial features are not appearing warped (the nose is not appearing enlarged) from a too-close perspective.
