ER2SE is a great choice for audio creators and musicians on a budget, who require a precise and neutral sound reproduction. But, even though I normally dig headphones with a nice soundstage, I find it hard to find fault with the ER2s. Checking out crin's comparison of the Dusk and the OG Solaris (which I adored, with a few caveats) I'm thinking that the Dusk might be a smidgen bright but have enough lower treble around 5kHz to level things out.

I suspect this is because the wax that was originally stuck deep in my ear has been pushed aside or dragged out; or perhaps it’s simply because I’ve gotten used to it. Clearly, the 4XR is superior and we can actually see how sheer speed helps in bringing out all the micro details. If it weren't for the deep insertion, I'd consider either of them to be strong candidates for a secondary/travel IEM.Although the ER2SE uses dynamic drivers—rather than the ER4SR’s balanced armature drivers—audio sounds accurate across the frequency range.

But depth is still a sticking point: these have no front image at all, not even if I really force it. Tuned in the same neutral house signature, the dynamic drivers in ER2SE give us a little peek into the character and nature of the moving coil dynamic driver. emphasis that really stuck out when coming from my full sized headphones, even those with a 3k bump like my modded HD580.Environmentalists will appreciate how easy it is to replace the cable and ear tips once they’re worn out. Remarkably, those earphones offered between 35dB – 42dB of passive noise isolation, making them the world’s first true noise-isolating earphones—ones that even today offer unmatched levels of noise reduction. I would like to get some feedback especially on the reshaping of the upper mids to treble region of the frequency response. The new: for the first time in quite a while, Etymotic has abandoned its tradition of using balanced-armature (BA) drivers and switched to a single dynamic driver.

Another way to maintain the headset and protect your ears from infection is by frequently cleaning and replacing the ear tips. The Dirac driver’s lower mids are slightly pulled back which sucks out some of that important warmth from the midrage. Even if you can finagle your 1/2" mic into your coupler, you're going to have to do an awful lot of work to calibrate its internal volume and transfer impedance to make it match a proper 711 coupler. On ‘Breakfast’, note how both the ER2SE and XR capture the deep, woody, and swinging voice of the acoustic bass as set against lilting piano lines and the incisive ‘clack’ of wood-block percussion accents. Unless you’re using an iPhone with the AirPods Pro or some proprietary Apple headset, you’re bound to run into connection issues.Either way based on them and previous experiences with Ety's BA designs I was a bit pessimistic about the overall profile being to my liking but I was pleasantly surprised, really: out of the Galaxy S9+ simply running them with Bit and Bandwidth Upscaling mode through the baked-in UHQ upscaler makes them perfectly listenable, no EQ necessary. That said, many smartphone makers have removed the headphone jack from their flagships, claiming any number of excuses for doing so. Every audiophile, it seems, has a moment where they discover Etymotics, and their perspective is forever changed.

Blessing 2 reminds me slightly of the Andromeda in the sense that they straddle the line between just enough and too much treble. Do watch out when wearing these outside on the go though, make sure to pay attention to traffic at all times. The player was loaded with standard and high-res PCM and DSD music files and also provided access, via Tidal, to a wealth of MQA material. The ER4SR’s cable is braided above the Y-splitter, and is a bit more flexible than the ER2SE’s non-braided cable.
