Description

He published his first story in 1944, when he was twenty-four, and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. Beginning in 1967, Bukowski wrote the column "Notes of A Dirty Old Man" for the underground newspaper Open City . Some areas extremely violent, vulgar and vaguely mysogonistic but very interesting and honest regardless.

The story could be fictional, of course, but I've read a lot of Bukowski, and I feel like I can tell when he's BS'ing and when he isn't. Yıllarca insanlardan kaçmamın nedeni bu, ve onlarla görüşmeye başladığımdan beri inime dönme zamanının geldiğini hissediyorum. Like South of No North, this book has its ups and downs, although I like Notes of a Dirty Old Man slightly better for several reasons. It is life uncluttered by the niceties and civilities of the numbed life most of us, under the confines of comfy blankets, PC's, cell phones, the latest fashions, million channel TV, etc. He’s a decent tie in for those interested in the beat generation and those looking for irreverence in everything. The whores, the drinking binges, the alley fights and the insanity of the man of the streets is a life lived at its most direct and extreme. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural and economic ambience of his home city of Los Angeles. Bukowski published his first story when he was twenty-four and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five.

Which makes the book weirdly enjoyable, because it is so damn uncensored and raw, a blend of honesty and bat-shit crazy that makes a brilliant read. Your diary reminds me a bit of Celine, and maybe that was your intention, you were a man who had read a great deal. Bukowski is so unflinchingly honest about everything, so don't read this if you can't handle the truth.Almost all of the "Notes of a Dirty Old Man" columns have been collected by City Lights Books: Notes of a Dirty Old Man (1969), Erections, Ejaculations and General Tales of Ordinary Madness (1972), Tales of Ordinary Madness (1983), The Most Beautiful Woman in Town and Other Stories (1983), Portions from a Wine-Stained Notebook (2008), Absence of the Hero (2010), More Notes of a Dirty Old Man (2011), The Bell Tolls for No One (2015), and The Mathematics of the Breath and the Way (2018). Even if it is all an act, all of the autobiographical shit, Bukowski still has the narrative perspective of a person who refused to be groomed by his parents, teachers, or lovers. but in the center of all this was the fact that I was living, that I had the ability to feel and the power to say no.

See him as he walks through a park absorbing images and smells, pausing every once in a while to take a closer look at whatever catches his attention. The stories tend to get disgusting, but if you dig deep enough in the shit that the author presents, you are able to find the harsh truth. Now I know that’s a vast oversimplification but most of the stories are true, or have true elements! Notes Of A Dirty Old Man is a compilation of columns and short stories that have been collected from Bukowski's early days when he was writing for Open City which was a free, leftist leaning magazine which had a politicalised agenda. It wasn’t healthy for young strong American feminist brain-dead consumers to be reading the works of uhm … that woman-hating guy.
