With its large, easy-to-grip rubber handle, the peeler sits comfortably in the hand, even if you suffer from limited dexterity or small hands. The super

We had no issues peeling any vegetables, from hard sweet potatoes to delicate tomatoes. It cut well in both directions, though we did find that sometimes peels got caught in the blade rather than falling away, so it slowed the peeling time down a bit, especially with potatoes. However, the peeler managed to remove the peels in one swipe and didn't remove an excess amount of the actual potato. When you’re prepping for a large dinner, it’s always nice to do some of the work ahead of time. Yes, you can peel your potatoes ahead, but after peeling they should be submerged in cold water to keep them from turning brown. They can be peeled up to 24 hours in advance and kept submerged in cold water in the refrigerator.

2. Best budget potato peeler: Lamapee Potato Peeler

Of course, you can get your hands on one those iconic coffee machines that started the Good Grips revolution. OXO Good Grips containers Kyocera is known for its incredibly sharp ceramic knives, so it’s no surprise that it also offers peelers with ceramic blades. This Y-shaped peeler won’t rust or corrode, and the ceramic material minimizes food browning, which is great when you’re peeling large quantities of apples or potatoes. Like Kyocera’s ceramic knives, the blade on this peeler is made from the company’s proprietary zirconia material that will stay sharp much longer than similar metal knives. With a few exceptions, peelers are among the least expensive kitchen gadgets, so it’s not unusual to see several different peelers in the gadget drawer—each with its own purpose—because peeling carrots is much different than peeling tomatoes. Since they’re inexpensive, it’s also nice to have a spare, so you’re not waiting for the dishwasher to finish before you can peel the Yukons. If you’re in the market for several peelers to outfit your kitchen, this Oxo set is the way to go. Not only do you have the option to go for a colorful set—one swivel peeler with a green handle, one julienne peeler with an orange handle, and one serrated peeler with a red handle—but these peelers also offer versatility and durability. It depends on how the potatoes will be used. Many people like to slice the potatoes in half horizontally and bake them in their skins. If the peels won’t be desirable for serving, the potatoes should be peeled before cooking.

Blade: Potato peelers come with straight or serrated blades. After putting both to the test, we recommend straight blades for potatoes and most ingredients, and serrated blades for delicate items with thin skins, like tomatoes. Straight blades produce clean cuts, while serrated blades leave behind ridges that may not be ideal, presentation-wise. LindaB Great quality product I bought this to replace an old one. Excellent as ever. Feels good to hold. It has a sharp blade which peels vegetables easily. Style: There are two main types of potato peelers to consider: manual and electric. Within manual peelers, there are the traditional peeler and the Y-peeler. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference: Either can be used for all types of peeling. The handle isn’t uncomfortable, but it's not as comfortable as peelers with larger or soft-grip handles. While this cut well in testing, the cutting felt rough rather than smooth because of the way it’s sharpened. Although it isn’t a serrated peeler, a close inspection showed that the sharpening is slightly rough. The peeler rattled a bit during cutting, which made it seem less sturdy, but it still got the job done. Since it has two sharp cutting edges, we could cut in either direction, and it’s great for both left- and right-handed users. If a vegetable peeler is a tool that you use infrequently, this might be more than you need, but if you want a variety of blades, this is a must-have set. Each peeler has its own clear safety cover to make sure blades aren’t exposed in storage.

What is the best potato peeler?

OXO Good Grips have long had a widespread appeal and anyone who likes to make life that little bit easier will love these inspirational products. So why not join the OXO Good Grips fan club and see why they’re relied upon to lend a hand in kitchens all over the UK. Material: Blades are generally stainless steel or carbon steel, though there are ceramic-bladed peelers. Stainless steel holds a sharp edge and is also usually dishwasher safe. Carbon steel is very sharp but can rust over time if not washed and dried thoroughly. Ceramic blades are sharp but can stain. The upgraded version of a classic OXO peeler, this one has a slightly better grip, a sharper blade, and is built to be even sturdier than the original. The swiveling blade moves at exactly the right angle to peel vegetables with ease, and after peeling a virtual produce bin’s worth of vegetables, we couldn’t find anything this peeler couldn’t handle. We tested it with potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, and tomatoes, as well as some limes. No matter what, it cut easily and felt smooth. CarolHemm Good Grips Y Peeler Very sharp, easy to hold, best peeler I've ever used, only reason I've given it four stars is because like most of these types of peelers the peel gets clogged in the blade.

For easy cleaning, it can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. In fact, this has been one tester's go-to peeler for three years and she always throws it into the dishwasher when she's done with it. Shape: Do you want to use a traditional straight peeler or a Y-shaped peeler? Some like a Y-shape for easier peeling, whereas others opt for a straight blade for precision. It’s really down to personal preference. Type of blade: Do you want a straight or serrated edge blade? Straight edge blades can be better for potatoes and create a more presentable, smooth finish, but serrated edges can be more efficient for soft and delicate fruits. Aside from the blade’s material, it is also worth considering how it is designed. Some blades are serrated, and others have a fine edge. Consider which makes more sense for the types of food that you’ll be peeling. With its large, easy-to-grip rubber handle, the OXO peeler sits comfortably in the hand. Even if you suffer from limited dexterity or have small hands, you'll find using this y peeler comfortable. The super sharp, stainless steel blade effortlessly glides through the most stubborn of veg, saving you both time and effort.Y peelers have a double blade that lies perpendicular to the handle and "are good for long, straight ingredients," says Papantoniou. One of the first products ever 'invented' by the founder of OXO Good Grips - this iconic swivel peeler was the start of a range of kitchen tools, all ergonomically-designed to suit every generation of user. OXO peelers and tools were especially focused on those with arthritis, who may struggle to grip utensils tightly. The grip has finger-hold ridges, but they may not be perfect for every user. We found them a little off for the way we wanted to grip the peeler, but other users may love it. The blade swivels so it’s at the right angle for cutting, and the peeler managed to remove the peels in one swipe without removing an excessive amount of the actual potato. When all the work is done, cleanup is easy since it’s dishwasher safe. While the Y Peeler is well-suited to vegetables, the OXO Good Grips Swivel Potato Peeler is perfect for spuds. Make sure you explore the Good Grips range. Their carefully considered easy-to-grip design means their kitchen tools are accessible as well as effective. With a super sharp stainless steel blade, this handy tool can peel even the hardest food skins with ease and includes a built in eyer for removing any unwanted blemishes or imperfections. With a chunky, non-slip handle, this high-quality peeler is comfortable and easy to hold, ensuring safe peeling even with wet hands.

Mrs Smith 2910 Speedy peeler Both the hubby and I prefer using this peeler to our old knife style peeler, it is a doddle and you can really speed peel. It is sturdy and feels like it will last long time. Kyocera has made a name for itself with super-sharp ceramic knives, so it should come as no surprise that this ceramic peeler performs just as well. The Y-shaped tool won't rust or corrode, and the ceramic material minimizes food browning, which comes in handy when peeling large amounts of apples or potatoes. Like Kyocera’s ceramic knives, the blade on this peeler is made from the company’s proprietary zirconia material and will stay sharp much longer than similar metal knives. OXO have come a long way since Sam Farber designed that first OXO peeler. Today, you’ll find a wide array of OXO kitchen utensils available at Lakeland, from saucepans with comfortable stay-cool handles and Good Grip garlic presses to easy-to-use soft handled can openers and these fantastic multi-purpose fruit preparation tools. The grip has finger-hold ridges, but they may not be perfectly fit for every user. The blade swivels, so it’s at the right angle for cutting, and when all the work is done, cleanup is easy since it’s dishwasher safe. It's also available in a wide variety of colors if you want to add a bit of personality to your toolkit. We love that it’s easy to clean and dishwasher safe, with a hanging hole in the handle for straightforward storage on a hook. While it's not the cheapest peeler on the market, most reviewers felt that it was worth paying a few pounds extra for the quality of the OXO Good Grips range. For peace of mind, it also comes with an OXO Better Guarantee so you can have it repaired or replaced by the brand without question. ProsThis classic, Swiss-design peeler offers a serrated swivel peeler that is adept at catching onto tough-to-penetrate skins (fuzzy, hard, or smooth), like tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and peaches. The serrated blade is also great for trimming tougher foods, like fresh asparagus and squash.Because it's serrated, it leaves behind very fine ridges on the item that you’re peeling, which provides extra grip on your food to prevent slipping. The imprint is so small, though, that you may not even notice. Built for peeling, coring, and slicing apples, this can be converted to peel-only mode for potatoes or for other fruits and vegetables that don’t need to be cored or sliced. The peeling blade is adjustable to two settings for smaller foods or deeper peeling, or for larger foods or less aggressive peeling. We successfully peeled and cored apples, and moved on to peeling potatoes and sweet potatoes. This worked best with foods that were more round rather than uneven or oval. With some potatoes, we had to do a little trimming to remove sections of peel. We also had to cut our long sweet potatoes to fit. Comfort is key when you’re using a tool that requires diligence and repetition. Keep your hands comfortable with an easy, natural grip that’s not going to fall out of your hands. This peeler, which is equally as comfortable for righties as it is for lefties, boasts a molded handle that is easy to hold onto. The dual stainless steel blades allow you to peel in either direction. OXO have been making thoughtfully designed, easy-to-use household utensils and items since 1990. The brand takes a closer look at everyday objects and activities, then decides how to make them simpler, faster and easier through intelligent design and subtle tweaks. OXO utensils are friendly, functional, high-quality and can make your everyday life that little bit easier.
