The Emperor's Soul is a fantasy novella written by American author Brandon Sanderson. It was first published in November 2012 by Tachyon Publications. It won the 2013 Hugo Award for best novella. [1] The novella is included in the 2016 Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection. I thought this was a nice bindup of two Sanderson novellas, but they are not related what-so-ever, and they actually aren't even in the same genre. The first story is a contemporary, with a hint of thriller? It's about a schizophrenic who personifies his hallucinations, and solves mysteries with them, so I'm not sure what genre that would fall into. The second is a good old high fantasy, Sanderson's homeground. Or more specifically, what if you could change the history of an object and essentially recreate what it believes it is?El alma del emperador sigue la historia de Shai, quien es cautiva y está a punto de recibir un juicio luego de hacerse pasar por una noble de alta alcurnia, falsificar unas pinturas y robar algo del Imperio Rosa. Sin embargo, recibe una propuesta por parte de los árbitros (quienes manejan parte del trono y la política del imperio) que será la única oportunidad para salvarse el pellejo y a su misma vez beneficiarlos a ellos con el mantenimiento del orden y el poder sobre el imperio. A cambio de su libertad, la misión de Shai es hacer una falsificación del alma del emperador luego de que este mismo hubiera recibido un atentado que lo dejó inerte e inservible mentalmente y en el que murió su esposa, la emperatriz. Para ello, debe copiar cada aspecto de la vida del emperador Ashravan, desde sus gustos más sencillos hasta lo más particular como sus actitudes y comportamientos para que absolutamente nadie sospeche de que es una copia exacta o al menos, casi perfecta. En este volumen Brandon Sanderson nos regala un dos por uno de historias en apenas 250 hojas, ambas de gran calidad; con temáticas, argumentos e historias que son totalmente diferentes entre sí pero que devorarás sin darte cuenta.

Hauptsächlich dreht sich die Geschichte um Shai und Gaotona die die Beweggründe für die Taten des jeweils anderen (und die von Ashravan dem Imperator) zu verstehen lernen. As I mentioned, there are ties to Sanderson's first novel, Elantris. If you haven't read Elantris, don't worry, that won't slow you down at all. If you have, you'll appreciate the little touches that show the Empire is part of the same world, even if far away, and you'll have fun puzzling out how Shai's Forging ties into the magic system seen in the parts of the world depicted in Elantris. Sanderson always delivers great magic systems in his fantasy books, and the magic here is different enough from Elantris to be interesting while still be consistent with the logic of the other book. This is the same world in which Elantris was set, though few connections are made to that book within The Emperor's Soul. In the postscript, Sanderson explains that he was inspired to write this story after visiting the National Palace Museum in Taiwan and also by memories from the two years he spent in Korea as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shai is given an impossible task: to create - to Forge - a new soul for the emperor in less than one hundred days. But her soul-Forgery is considered an abomination by her captors. She is confined to a tiny, dirty chamber, guarded by a man who hates her, spied upon by politicians, and trapped behind a door sealed in her own blood. Shai's only possible ally is the emperor's most loyal councillor, Gaotona, who struggles to understand her true talent.Da die Frau des Imperators bei dem Attentat gestorben ist und ein solcher Fall von ihm verlangt 100 Tage von der Außenwelt isoliert zu trauern, hat Shai genau diese 100 Tage Zeit um seine Seele zu modellieren und das natürlich so genau, dass niemandem hinterher ein Unterschied auffällt. Die Seele eines Menschen zu verändern ist für gewöhnlich verboten, aber auch ein äußerst schwieriger Prozess, da man die winzigsten Details über diese Person wissen muss damit der Körper den Wandel überhaupt annimmt. Die Berater versprechen ihr das Leben und die Freiheit wenn ihr diese Aufgabe gelingt. Da Shai allerdings skeptisch ist, ob ihr dies wirklich gewährt wird, plant sie geheim ihren Fluchtversuch...
