Description

Although Gryffindors might think that Slytherins are cowardly, in reality they just have a strong sense of self preservation, and don't go running into situations without some forethought. Instead of rushing in, Slytherins will often think of a cunning way to win the day.

Noble Demon: Though the Slytherin house's reputation for cruelty and selfishness is well deserved (and well-earned), to the few people whom they deem worthy of their love (or at the very least, respect) Slytherin are capable of loyalty, bravery, honor, love, kindness, and heroism fierce enough to equal (and sometimes even rival) any Gryffindor. Of course, they are not the majority, most of them genuinely live up to the worst of their House reputation. Pansy Parkinson is a Slytherin in Harry's year, described as arrogant and always insulting anyone she pleases to. She is Draco Malfoy's girlfriend for most of the series, and is in many ways the female version of Draco. But just before the battle of Hogwarts, she suggests the Hogwarts students betray Harry Potter to Voldemort, so she is the first student to be evacuated. Rich Bitch: It's never confirmed how wealthy her family is, but she certainly acts like she belongs in this category. Gonk: Most Slytherins are given rather unflattering descriptions. Crabbe, Goyle, Bulstrode and Flint are all described as troll-like, Montague has large hairy arms, Pansy has a face like a pug, Nott is seedy-looking and even Draco is mentioned to resemble a weasel. The only exception is Blaise Zabini, who’s described as being very handsome. Mudblood” is a slur in the world of Harry Potter that is used to degrade wizards and witches who have a regular ‘Muggle’ parent or two. It’s the fantasy equivalent of a racial slur and the interactions that members of the Slytherin house in the books with “mudbloods” are heavily coded with racism. Or maybe not even coded, it’s explicitly racist but with ‘not magical’ as the stand-in for ‘not white’.Harry Potter started out as a small spark in the imagination of J. K. Rowling and has grown into an empire. That empire encompasses seven books, eight movies, and several theme park lands spread all over the world in places such as Orlando, Hollywood, Beijing, and Japan. Each story in the Harry Potter series includes adventure, heartwarming lessons, and symbolism. Even something as simple as the Hogwarts’ house colors hold a special meaning to the author and the fans that are young as well as those that are young at heart, like my wife and I. Fantastic Racism: Along with most of the Slytherins, of course, but as far as Nott goes, he's more than likely related - perhaps a direct descendant - of a man named Cantankerus Nott, who is credited with anonymously publishing the Pure-Blood Directory, listing the British wizarding families who were still "truly pure-blood" by his time. In other words, Cantankerus Nott literally wrote the book on pure-blood supremacism. His father was also a Death Eater, and one of the longest serving ones at that. He was shown at least once making fun of Hermione's blood-status along with Draco.

More Despicable Minion: Crabbe turns out to be even worse than Malfoy; while Malfoy was unable to kill Dumbledore, Crabbe had no problem with trying to murder Harry, Ron and Hermione with Killing Curses and Fiendfyre. The Bloody Baron is the Slytherin house ghost. He is covered in silver bloodstains and the only one who can control Peeves, the Hogwarts poltergeist. Harry Potter does a pretty good Bloody Baron impression. In life, he was born into nobility in the late tenth century, and fell in love with Rowena Ravenclaw’s daughter, Helena. Learn more about their tragic story here. Slytherin scarf
