The premium packaging and beautiful presentation of the UD1S Somethin’ Else pressing befit its extremely select status. The removal of two steps of the plating process also reveals musical details and dynamics that would otherwise be lost due to the standard multi-step process. As veteran critic Bob Blumenthal observed writing about the album four decades after its release, “The instant rapport achieved by the quintet is thus the product of much shared and common history, though the tensile strength that they create throughout created a totally unique feeling that can be attributed to the sensitive musicianship of all concerned, including the supposedly hard bopping leader and drummer.

Compared to Analogue Productions, Impex and Tone Poet, these are really quiet vinyls, this vinyl is damn noisy. The album was recorded during Adderley's membership in the Miles Davis' First Great Quintet, and it also marks one of the few recordings Davis made as a sideman after 1955. And then listen as bassist Sam Jones and drummer Art Blakey seize some of those stone-simple pianistic rejoinders and transform them into fuel for further agitation. Cannonball Adderley’s Somethin’ Else, one of the few albums featuring Davis as a sideman, is calm and uncluttered and direct, each line and phrase contributing something crucial to the whole.

At the end of that track, Davis can be heard addressing producer Alfred Lion, saying "is that what you wanted, Alfred? The title "Alison's Uncle" was created by Nat Adderley in the 1980s when he was asked by reissue producers to name a track that they could not identify. On side 2, it was stamped at a more extreme angle, causing a "dent" in the original master lacquer, and is even less recognizable.Throughout its history, Mobile Fidelity has remained true to this goal, pioneering state-of-the-art technologies and setting audiophile standards that remain in place today.

Those who exist within their own sphere of art tend to produce works that express an inward journey, while Julian was so acutely in touch with his surroundings that he was able to include the listener . The vinyl composition features a new carbonless dye (hold the disc up to the light and see) and produces the world’s quietest surfaces. The composition is actually Hank Jones' "Bangoon", and first appeared on Gigi Gryce's 1957 Jubilee Records album Jazz Lab, with Jones playing piano. With UD1S, every aspect of vinyl production is optimized to produce the best-sounding vinyl album available today.Nat Adderley's alternate title refers to the session having taken shortly after his daughter Alison had been born. They’re able to seize and work with them in part because each is rendered with such respectful clarity. Never been one of the stronger SRXs and after spinning both over the last number of days the new Mofi One Step definitely relegates this to second tier. Sourced from the original analogue master tapes and housed in a mini-LP-style gatefold sleeve, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered-edition hybrid SACD pays tribute to the record’s merit and includes the bonus track “Allison’s Uncle. Somethin' Else is an album by American jazz saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, recorded on March 9, 1958 and released on Blue Note in August later that year—his only album for the label.
