The intro to this book blew me away and I'm glad I waited to read this series, this is a great edition for a first timer. I dislike Stephen Bisette's way of portraiting shadows, using straight lines, and the faces and some panels are inconsistent. I’ve spent the past 3 days pouring over these pages and have gone back and read numerous issues just to gawk at how accomplished Moore was even before books like Watchmen and Killing Joke.

Well my girlfriend got me this collection for my birthday last week, and it is a transcendent experience.It surely seems that is the case since the symbol of Cain killing his brother Abel is overtly used over and over again. SPOILERS: he says that Alec Holland died in the origin of Swamp Thing and that swamp thing is actually a plant that thinks it’s human. There is so much to discuss and unpack here that I have no idea where to begin, but I believe that as many people as possible should read this. Plus, Swamp Thing's quest for self-discovery comes to its shattering conclusion, and a harbinger of doom awakens an evil beyond comprehension-bringing together Constantine, Deadman, the Phantom Stranger, the Spectre and others.

I knew before going in that this run spawned the publishing offspring Vertigo into being and man, what a start.Something I would'nt recommend to a friend because my guess is they would judge it to be confusing and silly. As this is my first reading, I do not have nostalgia for the original coloring and do not have any problems with the re-coloring. There are a couple more appearances in this book mostly because of the tie in to Crisis on Infinite Earth, we see Batman, Cain, Abel, Doctor Fate, Zattana and a couple of Moore's favorites like Deadman, The Phantom Stranger and Etrigan.
