About this deal

This is another Joe Jameson narration, and it is a truth universally acknowledged that if Joe Jameson narrates a book, I will listen to it. The zeitgeist of 1989 comes through very well, captured through portraying particular West Berlin streets/neighbourhoods and what they represented at that time, along with cultural touchstones. isn't it wonderful when a friend suggests a book, and you pick it up, maybe feeling a little skeptical because really, how often do our tastes align even with good friends'? Michael Koryta (pronounced Ko-ree-ta) is the New York Times-bestselling author of 14 suspense novels. Reading Ben Fergusson's "An Honest Man" is a very meaningful moment in one's life: the combination of the haunted love story, the espionage thriller and the coming of age story taking place in one of the world's darkest times ever, is what makes this novel so peculiar, compelling.

I enjoyed this description nearing the critical moment as local prostitutes see their usual clientele swept away in the moment. I was constantly second guessing what people wanted from me, always aware that there were many thoughts and feelings I was necessarily burying. Gradually, what seems to be a coming of age novel becomes much more as lies and truths intertwine and Raif becomes embroiled in the politics of West and East Germany.Lyman is a 12 year old who is abused by his father and after running away from him into a abandoned house ends up meeting a mysterious woman he names Hachet. La intriga también está bien articulada de manera que no sabes por donde van a salir los tiros, cosa que se agradece. As well as a poignant love story, it’s also a gripping, original thriller; a final twist I definitely didn’t see coming sets a powerful climax in motion just as the Wall comes down. In Ben Fergusson's An Honest Man our narrator Ralf revisits a particularly significant year in his life. This book doesn't pass the Bechdel test, the protagonist is a man and we mostly see the action from his POV.

I didn't move from my bed, where I lay staring at a crack that ran from the cable of my lamp to the window frame. The book starts with the languorous nonchalance of the hot 1989 Berlin summer it is set in and torpor seems always about to strike but slowly the plot catches pace to an almost satisfying ending. Israel is an informant for a fbi agent who was in a task force helping the police investigate the murder that occurs on a yacht at the beginning of the novel. His narrative is sensual, as he always seem to loose himself in the bodies of those around him, describing bodies, someone's details almost with the painter's accuracy. Although we might not like or forgive Ralf's parents, Fergusson does give these characters some nuance. I was captivated by the opening scenes of dead bodies on a lavish yacht floating aimlessly in the bay.
