Most were oddly framed, and they were either out-of-focus, or had a filter applied to them that made it seem as if they were. There's a line she shares about how she only feels good when she's being productive, and I not only relate to that sentiment, but I think it sort of puts the book in a place that's not about showing off her travels but instead about exposing that sometimes you simply cannot "be" in the place you are. En tant que journal de voyage, et vu que je connais bien Paris, j'avoue que "French milk" ne m'a pas spécialement vendu du rêve.

if reading this brings back happy memories of college days and travel and such butterfly-like self-explorations, then you will probably enjoy this. Williamson's book really is a collection of Japanese vignettes through the eyes of a young American but with more thoughtful prose.Other creams: You will find other creams marked variously as crème fraîche fluide, crème entiere liquide, crème fouettée, or crème chantilly. Another theory is that Britons like to drink their tea with milk and the more subtle taste of tea compared to coffee means you taste the difference more.

Through delightful drawings, photographs, and musings, twenty-three-year-old Lucy Knisley documents a six-week trip she and her mother took to Paris when each was facing a milestone birthday.UHT milk in France is marked as keeping for three months unopened, although it is actually usable for six to nine months. The drawings were interspersed with distracting (and often unfocused) photography, all of which completely broke the immersion. I remember one sentence where Lucy says, and here I'll paraphrase, "Isn't it super weird that I feel like an independent adult when I'm alone but when I'm with my ma I regress and become akin to a wee infant? Knisley (French Milk, Relish) continues to own the travelogue/graphic novel genre by bringing her characteristic humor and heart to this memoir of a summer in Europe. French Milk is a travelogue, and as such, sometimes the details of each meal become less interesting toward the end.

In Relish, Knisley’s other major published work, she discusses her relationships with her parents with nuance and subtlety. There was very little exploration of the difference between the real Paris and the idealised, Americanised version - except, that is, where it could be complained about. It is meant to be both a travelogue, as well a series of ruminations on the transition to adulthood. But there was no discussion of their relationship at all, and even the milk shows up late in the book -- strange for something that is, after all, the title image. You know, I think I would also feel like that if I went to Paris WITH MY MOM and MY MOM PAID FOR MY TRIP.

It's the right mix of angst and hope and excitement and fear about the present and the future all at once. Lucy was turning twenty-two, just on the verge of graduating from college, and her mother was turning fifty. Par contre, c'est toujours amusant de voir la réaction des Américains face à certaines différences culturelles, notamment - mais pas que - dans l'alimentation.
