With all that out of the way, the ending has me excited for the next book and I've heard that it's much better than the first. I would march out in London streets and protest that they aren't actually creating an imprint to publish these books. Actually, this book ticks a lot of the boxes of what I DON'T like in a book, so the fact that I didn't hate it is nothing short of a miracle. This is a very popular book on tumblr/bookstagram, but it often comes with the continuation "the second book is so much better!

When she referred to one of the pirate's hat as 'a pirate hat' instead of a 'tricorn' I knew this needed to be in the bin. The magic in this book is mysterious and timid in the number of appearances, but it still give us a rather immense impression in its power and quality.I also struggled with the constant use of modern language by the MC, in what appears to be a mediaeval setting.

I applaud the author for creating an unreliable narrator who is so convincingly brain-washed that some readers actually seem to take her lust for Goldmember at idiotic face value, but there wasn't really a lot else going for her or that made her relatable, and that's hard as a reader.Please note: This adult fantasy book includes dark elements that may be triggering, including violence, cruelty, death, adult language, and explicit romance.
