It’s so strange to think about—how I went from that girl begging on a muddy corner, to a woman adorned in a gilded castle. She gains confidence and realizes that maybe not everyone is trying to take advantage of her or abuse her. its such a small detail, only really introduced at the end of the first book, that i was intrigued with how the fae magic is integrated into this installment. I really love Raven Kennedy’s writing, and I would have read this whole book in one sitting if it wasn’t for my body’s stupid need for sleep… 🙄 Seriously though, this book is even better than the first one, and this series is definitely a new favorite of mine and an addictive guilty pleasure.

The way this book ends, it gives her another chance to make some rights, BUT, I totally get her feelings of betrayal on both sides of the coin. I recommend reading this especially if you like immersive slow-burn fantasy romance, it’s highly imaginative with a gripping story and I’m definitely enjoying this one a whole lot. The Pacing Is Still Very Slow…While there are some major high points in the story that really add some excitement and unpredictability in the story, it takes you a bit longer than you’d maybe like to admit…. I bet you’ve even met a man who plays it cool, acts like it’s her choice what she does with her captive mind and soul…maybe you have. Stop letting him dull you, stop letting the whole fucking world trample you,” he shouts, making me flinch from the vehement demand.

Can we talk about Auren going to visit the saddles when she KNOWS they hate her more than anything… why did she do that? She believed the choices she made in her life were hers and not the manipulation of the man she believed loved her. Durch all die offenen Fragen blieb es zudem so spannend, dass es sich an keiner Stelle für mich zog. Her growth and realization towards the end that everything she had endured was because of a false love was so powerful yet heart wrenching.

I’d love to read more about them in a more settled way to see how they can use this to their advantage, and I can’t help but wonder if many of these people chose to take on this role. To conclude my review, the first book ended with an exciting cliffhanger and I knew and I was right! The frailty of bodies, a nearness to materials and manual work, the unknowability of our parents' suffering, and ultimately the loss of childhood innocence, all loom large in poems where sound comes first. But at what point have you actually seen him let that woman go, let her make her own faults, decisions, let her be who she wants to be even if it stifles her, all the while it kills him inside. Sorry if that seems mean, but with how character driven this story is, the pacing is definitely on the longer and slower and more methodical side. Let me just start off by saying how much I loved the found family in thus just *chef's kiss* it was so precious. where ‘gild’ offers a unique perspective of the story of king midas, this sequel moves beyond that and creates its own tale.
