I am interested in history, politics and international affairs, Scottish literature, language and culture, and all these themes appear in my work for adults. His novel The Testament of Gideon Mack was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize in 2006 and featured on the Richard and Judy Book Club in 2007.These materials were used when Education Scotland and Into Film held Scots Language Through Film events in these areas.
