Description

The sets reached a natural closure during WW2, as the wartime investment in better and more efficient aircraft designs meant that aeroplane shapes were now increasingly tailored to the tasks that there were designed to carry out, and increasingly optimised for scale.

The museum is a Registered Charity (1001560), and depends on volunteers, ticket sales, donations and bequests. This is a very good starter kit to get kids used to Mechanno and to see if they are cut out for it I guess. None of the parts were common with the standard Meccano system except the angle bracket, ½" pulley p/n 23a and spanner although parts could be used together. Aerodynamic limitations meant that basic fuselage and wing shapes weren't too different for large and small aircraft, so an airframe could have an open cockpit and a comparatively large pilot and become a single-seater plane, or it could have window-pieces fitted along its sides, and a jutting multi-window enclosed cockpit shell fitted forward, and with a few more changes could represent a very large airliner. Personalised advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out.The kits had their own sets of specialised parts, and could produce a vast range of aeroplane types, partly because of the clever tactic of not committing to a particular scale. However, with the new generation of planes that appeared during WW2, mass-production (and the need to outfly and outfight competing aircraft) made it very worthwhile for designers to fine-tune the shapes, and a Heinkel wing now looked quite different to a Spitfire wing or the wing of a Lancaster bomber. The parts were compatible with the regular Meccano sets so the parts, nuts and bolts could be used together. Meccano Aeroplane Constructor Boxed Set O, in fair used condition, instruction leaflet, plus a quantity of used additional Aeroplane parts and a constructed Royal Airforce Bi-plane.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Any lots with the following symbol In 1933 further improvements were made and the range of sets was expanded with "Special Aeroplane Outfits" these very fine sets included operating flaps and rudders, pilot's cabins and window panels to enable airliners to be constructed. Two different types of motors are available for this purpose, and are specially designed to fit inside the fuselage of a model aeroplane. On the left is an illustration from the 1932 Aeroplane Constructor manual a model I have built in blue and white parts. The 2-in-1 Model Stunt Plane Set comes with 78 durable metal and plastic parts, plus real tools and instructions. They were never to appear again but they certainly would have looked completely at odds with the jets of the post war era. If you purchase an item and you are not happy with the originality of an item you must contact the auction house within 7 days of receiving the lot(s), it is then solely up to the auctioneers discretion to issue a refund. Indeed the Meccano magazine explained how the new Aeroplane-Constructor parts could be used with standard Meccano parts picture below.

Items purchased must be posted, collected and removed from our premises within two weeks following the sale. We are also not responsible for any package sent either by ourselves or any third-party company which is lost in transit. However in 1932 the parts were vastly improved with stronger cambered wings and an increase in the range of parts, to enable much more realistic models to be constructed fuselage tops and wing tips were sprayed red.A small clockwork motor could also be purchased to power the prop of your aircraft this came with a fixed key, drive shaft, small boss and control rod. For wheeled models, a contrate gear below the fuselage connecting to a special geared axle-piece between the front wheels allowed the plane's propeller to rotate when the model was pushed along the ground.

It is the responsibility of the bidder to insure that all absentee bids are left with the auction house at least 24 hours before an auction takes place. Motor drives the Propellor and also the Landing Wheels, so that the complete model taxies along the ground just like an actual machine. Brighton Toy and Model Museum is a World-class repository and display environment for early toys and models situated under Brighton Railway Station, on England's South Coast. The French sets also had a pressed corrugated finish on most of the parts in the style of Continental aircraft such as Fokker, Junkers and Farman. Motor drives the propellor at high speed and adds tremendously to the realism of the aeroplane, giving it a lifelike effect. With the included parts and tools, you'll be able to enjoy building the model that you can play with once finished. Other improvements included the reshaping of the lower fuselage to allow the construction of more realistic-looking seaplanes, and moveable tail control surfaces. If you are successful in an auction with an absentee, telephone or internet bid, you will be invoiced, normally within 48 hours of the auction taking place.
