My partner and I did the "what mushroom are you" quiz and learnt that we're both scarlet elf cups, which it turns out is a real mushroom that exists. It is the Author’s hope that this little book with its colour chart will be used on forays and at home constantly. After an introduction, visual index and glossary, Phillips categorises mushrooms by type and runs through their identifying features with plenty of facts and figures. Also included are more than 1,500 photos and an illustrated glossary to help you distinguish different varieties. It is an excellent little guide for beginner foragers who are looking for the top edible mushrooms in Maine and want to know how to prepare them.Collect only specimens in good condition; old or rotten specimens will not make a good meal and can cause serious stomach upsets. Immerse yourself in these invaluable resources, designed to empower you with the skills and insights needed to explore the fascinating world of wild truffles. Hi all, I’ve currently got the Wild Food UK Foraging Pocket Guide and the Letts Pocket Guide to Mushrooms and other Funghi. The book begins with an introduction to fungi and mushroom biology, a mushroom calendar and a crash course in hunting for edible mushrooms, together with useful tables containing information on classifying and identifying edible fungi.

Fungarium is part of the Welcome to the Museum series of books, which covers a range of topics, from anatomy to astronomy.

Hence I have titles covering Russula (The Genus Russula in Great Britain), Agaricus ( The Genus Agaricus in Britain) and my most recent work The Genus Amanita in Great Britain. But it is pretty big; Collins isn't a good guide on its own, but with Phillips as a backup its useful. Comparing the actual fungi you find with the photos or paintings in your field guide will soon show the value of owning more than one guide.

This mushroom identification book highlights 330 species organized in an easy-to-follow color-coded layout. If you find yourself captivated by the mystique of the forest floor, intrigued by the myriad shapes and colours that fungi can take, and eager to embark on the rewarding journey of mushroom foraging, you've arrived at the perfect destination. The Wild Food UK Mushroom Foraging Guide has 352 pages covering over 160 different mushrooms species that grow wild in the UK. Additionally, the book features a comprehensive introduction that covers important topics such as safety, equipment, laws, ethics, and preparation methods.Join a fungus foray organised by your local fungus group or wildlife trust, or, better still, attend a weekend course at a field centre. It is not “complete” as the title suggests, but is a great resource nonetheless for people wanting to learn more about the mushrooms they find in the woods. Due to the large number of species listed, there aren’t as many photos as one would like, but that’s a common problem with all printed guides – there isn’t space for all the pictures while also including an exhaustive number of species. They’re not for the total mushroom novice but an incredible tool for the novice itching to become a smarty-pants.

Do you have any other suggestions for resources that might be helpful to fellow mushroom enthusiasts? There are some downsides though- this book doesn’t have “dichotomous keys” meaning it can be hard to nail down the exact species of mushrooms that you find only using this book. I've dedicated a ton of time to learn all about the amazing world of mushrooms- and would love to share that information with you!

It’s great for detailed identification, but it’s definitely not a book you can take out in the forest with you. If you're captivated by the elusive charm of these underground treasures, intrigued by the complexities of finding them in their natural habitat, and eager to delve into the intricacies of growing your own, you've found a haven of knowledge tailored to your interests. This thorough book presents itself as ‘the most complete field guide to the mushrooms and toadstools of Britain and Ireland’, and covers almost 2,400 different species.
