About this deal

Both achieve the same objective, however the professional one looks better and has a slightly lower risk of contamination as the polyfill air filter can induce ‘Wicking’ where the mycelium can make contact with the air filter and any contaminants that are caught in the filter. The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings.

You go into a lot of detail about contamination and creating the first generation spawn but when you take spawn from first generation and put in the other mason jars with the pressure cooked rye, how do you make that transfer? To avoid contaminating my materials, I additionally wipe down all work surfaces with rubbing alcohol. Once used as an actual filter, it’s gas exchange ability would be reduced severely as it would be gunked up with mycelium. first of all, the grain contains tons of nutrition that is important for fruiting- kind of acts like supplementation.

For cool-loving oysters, such as blue oyster or snow oyster, I recommend placing in a cool basement or unheated patio. The coffee changes the pH a bit and is thought to increase yield, while the gypsum is helpful to prevent the grains from sticking together. I would put the soaked substrate drip dried into the jars, drill a quarter inch hole and stuff with poly stuffing before screwing on the top. You can also inoculate the grain jar without even opening the lid, by simply injecting the liquid culture right though the filter on the top of the jar.

It’s a fun weekend project and the creations can be used as candy jars for a candy bar, birthday party, thank you gifts for a baby shower, baby room decoration, piggy bank, jewlery box and so on. Our organic rye is nutrient-enriched with gypsum and other PH adjusters to give you a fast colonizing jar from spores, agar or liquid culture. Dip your finger in water and soap and work the silicone in a circular motion until the hole is sealed up. At Midwest Grow Kits, we use only quality ingredients and materials on all our mushroom growing products.Slice 1-2 small pieces from your petri dish (see photo below; you can inoculate several jars with one petri dish of mycelium) using a sterile scalpel. Using a small amount of spores is the easiest method for me to properly inoculate my grains, rye berries usually.

If you talk to any number of mushroom growing enthusiasts, you will likely hear many ideas for growing strategies. Please be sure to read your pressure canner’s instructions and familiarize yourself with its safety features BEFORE trying this step. You need a good quality pressure canner that can reach at least 15 psi and is large enough to fit your grain jars.To increase your changes of growing mushrooms rather than mold, I recommend using a semi-sterile process for transfer. I have a suspicion that before I used ships, opening the jar aloud contams to enter off the bat, so I purchased SHIPS from an online site to eliminate the problem. Finally, not sure what you mean by the sandwich technique with spores, but generally spores are added to the dish after it has cooled and solidified and often takes a number of transfers before you arrive at a pure culture. Cover the tinfoil shape with a layer of clay and also start shaping the walls, the door and the windows on the jar. A few days later I popped them in front of my HEPA and did the usual procedure being more careful since I didn’t have injection ports this time for reason I’ll explain further down the blog.
