His novels have been widely adapted for stage and screen, and he was the winner of multiple prizes, including the Carnegie Medal. In The Art of Discworld, it was also revealed that in her youth, she had dated Leonard da Quirm, resulting in his painting Mona Ogg. To date there are a total of 36 books in the Discworld series, of which four (so far) are written for children. Unlike Granny Weatherwax, and the stereotype of witches in general, Nanny Ogg does not live in an isolated cottage but in a well-looked-after townhouse in the capital of Lancre with her eldest and youngest sons living to either side.

It was the magic of illusions and misdirection and foolery, and that was fine by Nanny Ogg, because you couldn’t be married three times without a little fooling. A non-Discworld book, Good Omens, his 1990 collaboration with Neil Gaiman, has been a longtime bestseller, and was reissued in hardcover by William Morrow in early 2006 (it is also available as a mass market paperback (Harper Torch, 2006) and trade paperback (Harper Paperbacks, 2006). It was one of the few sorrows of Granny Weatherwax’s life that, despite all her efforts, she’d arrived at the peak of her career with a complexion like a rosy apple and all her teeth. She has fifteen living children, innumerable grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she likes to have all of her family around her in case of an emergency, such as she needs a cup of tea (which she takes with three lumps of sugar) or the floor washed.

She shares this home with Greebo, a tomcat of evil aura and aroma and astonishing viciousness, whom she still sees as a sweet kitten. It is said that housework to Nanny is something that happens to other people; Nanny stopped doing housework once her eldest daughter was old enough to hold a duster. Nanny lives her life exactly as she wishes, and her daughters-in-law are those who make that possible. She shares this home with Greebo, a tomcat of evil aroma and astonishing viciousness, whom she can see only as a fuzzy harmless kitten. One feels at all times the rich array of gags on which the Discworld sits, from the Wee Free Men's murderous banquets to why you should never shake hands with a troll over dinner.Jason is something of a gentle giant (somewhat like Constable Bluejohn), and very deferring and respectful to his mother and other witches.
